Spell It Out–MFT January Creative Challenge

creativechallenge_2014jan21

Hi, everyone! And welcome to MFT’s January Creative Challenge! The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month, Spell It Out!  Look forward to an assortment of creations from today's participating designers as we create custom sentiments or add personalization to cards, home-decor, 3-D gifts, or scrapbook pages using MFT alphabet dies or stamps.  Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all the designers who have a project to share with you today.

It’s been a while since I got all messy with a mixed media project so I decided to mix it up! I revisited another project I did months ago but changed it up considerably plus built upon what I did then.

I started with an 8 x 10 canvas board and painted it with Kraft craft paint, then brushed on some gesso to lighten it. Next, with waterproof ink, I stamped the chicken wire image from MPD Distressed Background Blocks and some text using Typewriter Text Background. Next I applied some modeling paste using MPD Brick Wall stencil. To make that show a bit more, I sponged on some distress ink in brown and then some waterproof ink in red. The red didn’t show up as much as I liked so then I decided to see what stenciling on top of the modeling paste would do. I used red waterproof ink and MPD Fleur-de-Lis stencil and I love the result!!

Here’s a close up of that:

Next, with Kraft card stock, I cut a large Fishtail Flags STAX Die-namics and stamped it with brown waterproof ink stamped off once and Woodgrain Background. That was popped up on foam for dimension. Then I added a Open Scallop Doily Die-namics cut from Sweet Tooth card stock with a stamped center, which was cut with Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics. The circle was also cut from Sweet Tooth card stock and was stamped with an image from LJD Spring Backgrounds in red waterproof ink and I colored each of the centers with a yellow Copic marker. On top of that I added a Large Leaf-Filled Flourish Die-namics cut from Jellybean Green card stock. I added a double hemp cord bow and then the flowers as follows: Mini Royal Roses Die-namics (Wild Cherry card stock), Mini Hybrid Heirloom Rose Die-namics (Lemon Drop card stock), and Rolled Mum Die-namics (Sweet Tooth card stock). Everything got a nice sponging with distress ink and then swiped with gesso. Here’s a close up of that element.

I absolutely love this sentiment from MPD Dandelion Wishes so I used it yet again ;-) I stamped the “Dare to” on a Mini Tab Foursome Die-namics die cut with waterproof black ink and adhered it under the edge of the double ended flag from Layered Treat Tag Die-namics. DREAM was cut from Wild Cherry card stock with LLD Little Letters Die-namics and popped up on foam. I love how this looks!!

To finish it off, I added some clusters of flat backed pearls and it was done! Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope this will inspire you to “mix it up”, too!
