Simply Fabulous--Sketches! {by Tamara} #93

Thanks to all of my supporters I'm still in the MFT Idol competition!! We'll get our new challenge later today and there's no telling what it'll be--those girls are cooking up something tough for us, I'm sure! Next Tuesday we'll do the voting thing all over again and the competition will be brutal!

It's Thursday so it's time for another Sketches! {by Tamara} Sketch Challenge--#93. Here's the sketch:

My base card is Whisper White with layers of Basic Black, Kiwi Kiss, and DP from the Letters From Paradise by Black Market Paper Society. I love it when you can get DP to work for you like this, don't you?!!! The second element is Basic Black with the edges punched with my favorite Martha Stewart border punch and a strip of DP. The sentiment--and focal image--uses a stamp from Verve's Beautiful Kindness set, stamped on Whisper White with Basic Black. It was cut/embossed with a Labels Four die, matted with Kiwi Kiss and Basic Black, and popped up on 3M foam squares. A few black jewels finish it off!

Don't forget to check out the sketch at the Sketches! {by Tamara} blog and give it a try--we'd love to see what you come up with!

Spread your wings and FLY!

[Please don't forget to vote for your favorite Idol contestant (hopefully me!) until 10pm EDT tonight, April 29th! You'll find the poll here. Thanks!]

I'm trying to get caught up on some challenges that I enjoy doing before we get the next MFT Idol challenge, so here's another card today. This one is for Viva la Verve With a Twist #5 for April. The twist this time is to include Spring on the card. I think butterflies are pretty Spring-like so that's what I went with. It's also for the Stampin' B's Challenge #3 which is an inspiration challenge. I don't have any crane stamps so I went with the colors for inspiration and the whole flying thing with the butterfly :)

My base card is 5 1/4" square Whisper White with partial layers of Old Olive, Taken With Teal, and DP from the K & Co. K-ology 6 x 6 Addison paper pad. I used a Martha Stewart border punch on the Old Olive layer and then tied a green grosgrain ribbon around all of that. Both images on the focal element are from Verve's Beautiful Kindness set, stamped in Old Olive and Taken With Teal. The butterfly was stamped twice and one cut out and popped up on a 3M foam square. The Whisper White layer was cut/embossed with a circle Nestabilities die, sponged lightly with Taken With Teal and layered on Taken With Teal and Old Olive. Some turquoise Hero Arts jewels finish off the sketch and add a little bling to the butterfly's body.

Thanks for dropping by!

Happy Mother's Day--Color Throwdown #40

[Please don't forget to vote for your favorite MFT Idol contestant (hopefully me!) until 10pm EDT tonight, April 29th! You'll find the poll here. And, if you're looking for my Idol post, please scroll down to the next entry. Thanks!]

It's another Color Throwdown Day, folks!! This is CTD # 40!!! And it's my week to choose the colors. I'm going with Pretty In Pink, Sage Shadow, and Chocolate Chip.

Mother's Day is fast approaching and I thought these colors were Mother's Day worthy. This will be the first Mother's Day without my own dear mother, so it's bittersweet for me this year--lots of wonderful memories but I miss her terribly. She loved to garden so I can picture her sitting on this bench under the rose arbor. I can't give this to my mother, but it's fitting that I dedicate it to her memory.

OK, my base card is Whisper White with layers of Sage Shadow and DSP from the Autumn Vines collection by SU!. The next element is simply Pretty in Pink with a pink gingham bow tied around all that. The focal image is a new-to-me stamp made by the now out-of-business PSX stamp company. I'm totally in love with their botanical stamps! Why didn't someone tell me about them, LOL?! But I digress. The image was stamped on Gina K. Pure Luxury 80lb card stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, colored with Copic markers (see below), and popped up on 3M foam squares. Green Dew Drops balance out the bow. The sentiment was stamped on Whisper White with Memento Rich Cocoa using a stamp from PTI's "Mother" set, punched out with a 1 3/8" circle punch, accented with another Dew Drop, and tied onto the bow with white Pearle cotton.

C'mon over to the Color Throwdown blog and play along with us this week. Please use Mr. Linky to post your card and please link directly to your card so we can find it easily. If you upload your card to a public forum, please use the keyword CTD40 so we can see your beauty all in one place. And if you play, you *could* be picked as our Featured Stamper and a guest designer! Hope to see you there!

Just Muckin' Around--MFT Idol, Top 5

[Please don't forget to vote for your favorite Idol contestant (hopefully me!) from 10pm EDT tonight, April 28th until 10pm EDT tomorrow night April 29th! You'll find the poll here.]

It probably comes as no surprise that I really do love scenes! So, here's another scene for this week's MFT Idol Contest entry. Our challenge was to "Frame It". Yep, that's it! This challenge was "up for interpretation and anything goes." Whoa. I liked the sound of that! After thinking about it for a day or two, I decided a shadowbox was the way to go. Years ago, I used to do them a lot, so this was a blast from the past for me.

The shadowbox that I used was unfinished wood so I painted the frame and the outside of the box red since I knew I was going to use red gingham scrapbook paper to cover the front of the frame. The box was easy but the glass was glued onto the frame so that took a while. The next thing I did was cut the paper for the inside of the box. I used Soft Sky (retired SU! In Color) and sponged some clouds on with Whisper White Craft ink. It's hard to see in the picture, but they're there. Then I cut a strip of coarse sand paper for the bottom to simulate a gravel path. Then it was time to start stamping. I used four different sets of stamps for this project: Punny Farm, Tea With Flopsey, Can Ya' Dig It?, and Spring Sprouts. I stamped the tree from Tea With Flopsey twice, colored the trunks, cut them out and glued them to the background and then did the "leaves". I was wishing I had some green Flower Soft (the only one I have is Lavender) and then I thought about model railroading. There's a ton of stuff in that department at Hobby Lobby so I bought a bag of "shrubbery" material and used it with Flower Soft glue. Worked like a charm as you can see from the closeup! I stamped and colored the pig, cow, and horse with Copic markers, cut them out, and attached them with 3M foam squares. Then I made a strip of "grass" along the fence line with more model railroad "shrubbery" material. I made the fence out of twigs from a real shrub in my yard and some SU! linen thread and put that in front of those animals. Then I stamped the rest of the pieces (except for That Girl's boots--they're paper pieced using a SU! hostess pattern pack), colored them with Copics (see below), and cut them out. They were also attached with 3M foam squares to add dimension. That little sheep just cracks me up! He's running flat out with his legs straight out in front and back. He wants what's in those buckets, I'm thinking! The sun was colored, cut out, and also popped up on foam squares. Next I punched out some tiny butterflies and attached them with Crystal Effects and the scene was done!

Now on to the frame. I covered it with the red gingham scrapbook paper, sanded and distressed it a bit, and then sponged it with Tea Stain distressing ink. I added strips of "denim" scrapbook paper and embellished the bottom strip with a tiny overall buckle that I had in my stash. I bought it somewhere (wish I could remember where!) and thought it might come in handy and it did. Silk daisies with bright yellow button centers, green punched leaves, and vintage buttons tied on with dark blue Pearle cotton give it a country look, I think. I used a ton of Copic markers on this project, but I love how it turned out! I hope you do too and will vote for me. Voting starts at 10PM tonight (Tuesday, April 28) on the MFT Forum and ends tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 29) at 10PM.

Thanks for dropping by today!

Wishful Elegance

[Be sure to check back later this afternoon for my MFT Idol Contest entry. I'm really excited about this week's challenge and my entry. And please don't forget to vote (hopefully for me!) starting tonight, Tuesday, April 28 at 10PM running until tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 29 at 10PM. You can find the poll on the MFT Forum here.]

This last week really got away from me so I thought I'd better get the SCS Sketch Challenge--#225--done before the next one comes out!

My base card is Very Vanilla with layers of Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, and DP from the Marrakesh 6 x 6 pad from Basic Grey, following the sketch. The focal image was stamped on Very Vanilla with a stamp from Verve's latest release called Wishful Elegance with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored with Copic markers (see below). It was then cut/embossed with a square Nestabilities die and matted on Tangerine Tango cut/embossed with a labels three die, and Pacific Point cut/embossed with another square die. Then the entire element was popped up on 3M foam squares. Some Pacific Point colored Dew Drops add some interest. A very simple card but the richness of the Marrakesh paper gives it some charm, I think.

Thanks for dropping by and please do come back later to see my Idol entry.

Piped Violets

This card is for Sharon Johnson's No Time To Stamp Stamp Simply Challenge #84: Let's Pipe Up! Here are her instructions:

"Let’s Pipe Up! Piping is a sewing term and I can’t think of a comparable stamping term to explain what I mean. Since my sewing background goes much farther back than my stamping background, I often view, in my mind’s eye, my paper as fabric and my embellishments as other sewn features. In sewing, piping is a piece of covered cording used to visually separate (but actually join) two patterns or two pieces of fabric. Think of a darling little girls dress with piping separating the bodice from the gathered skirt, or a much heavier type of piping on upholstered furniture. What I’m looking for today is that narrow strip of paper to separate 2 other pieces of paper."

Okey dokey. I used to sew a lot so I knew exactly what she meant. My base card is Whisper White with layers of Old Olive, Lavender Lace (run through the Cuttlebug with the Textile embossing folder), and a partial layer of DP from the Poppyfinch 6 x 6 pack by Memory Box. That partial layer is "piped" with Old Olive. The focal image is from Flourishes' Sweet Violets set. This is the small violets image and is so sweet! I stamped it on Gina K. Pure Luxury 80lb paper with Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Copic markers (see below). Next I cut/embossed it with a Oval Nestabilities die and did the same with the two mats. Then I popped it up on 3M foam squares, tied a sheer lavender ribbon around in a bow, and called it done!

Thanks for dropping by today! And don't forget--tomorrow is the next leg of MFT Idol contest. I made it to the Top Five so I hope you stop by on the MFT Forum and vote for me, Bar! Voting starts tomorrow night, Tuesday, April 28 at 10PM and runs through 10Pm Wednesday night, April 29.

Celebrate Life

This card is a double hitter: SCS Color Combinations #215: Basic Gray, Pink Pirouette, and Rose Red and Flourishes' Timeless Tuesday #12--to use acetate. Love the color combination! I've had some acetate card stock for a while but never got up the nerve to use it. This challenge made me do it. I'm happy with how it turned out, but I'm not sure I'm an acetate card kinda girl, LOL. I pulled out an old SCS Sketch for this card.

My base card is, of course, acetate card stock. The next element is Basic Gray and Urban Prairie DP from Basic Grey. The focal element and the sentiement element are the same, as far as cardstock is concerned: images stamped on Whisper White and matted with Basic Gray and Rose Red. All images are from PTI's Life set and were colored with SU! markers and ink pad. I added a few pink jewels to accent the sentiment element and that was that!

Thanks for dopping by today!

Can ya dig it?

This card is new and then it isn't. The card I made for the second week of the MFT Idol contest stays with me. I think it's a masterpiece, LOL, and I couldn't part with it. I did part with the gardening gift basket and I made another, less involved, card to go with it. But I think it has kept the essence of the original quite well. Let's see what you think.

OK, here's the original:This card is heavily masked with lots of details. Now, here's the one that went with the gift basket:

Not as elaborate, for sure, but then it's not being submitted for the MFT Idol competition, either! I think it's a pretty good alternate card--it has most of the important elements and much of it is the same. I'm not going to go into great detail on this card. Pretty much everything can be found on the original post here.

Thanks for dropping by today!

Celebrate Today

I didn't get a chance to do MFT Sketch Challenge #77 last week but I liked the layout so I used it for this birthday card.

While the title of this post is Celebrate Today, I don't feel much like celebrating. We had to put one of our cats, 18 year old Blue, down yesterday. She was the sweetest little girl and her leaving us creates a big hole in our hearts.

My base card is Whisper White with layers of Old Olive, Ruby Red, and DP from the Rhubarb Tart 6 x 6 pack from Memory Box. The next element is Old Olive and more DP, as are the three vertical elements. The focal image was stamped on Whisper White with a stamp from PTI's Life set. I used my SU! markers in Old Olive and Ruby Red to color directly on the stamp, spritzed it with a little water, and stamped. I didn't get enough water on it but I was afraid to put more. I'll have to practice with this technique but I like what I have here well enough. After I cut/embossed it with a Petite Oval Nestabilities die I sponged it lightly with Going Gray and layered it on Ruby Red and Old Olive, both of which were cut/embossed in the same way. It was then popped up on 3M foam squares. The sentiment is from Mixed Messages by PTI, stamped on Whisper White with Basic Gray and sponged with Going Gray. It and the two mats were punched with my Small Oval punch and is also up on foam squares. A couple of ruby red Dew Drops finish off the upper right corner and it's done!

Thanks for dropping by today!

Thoughts and prayers--Sketches! {by Tamara} #92

Time for another Sketches! {by Tamara} Sketch Challenge--#92. Here's the sketch:

My base card is Kraft with a layer of Baja Breeze and a partial layer of Parisian Breeze Specialty DSP. I stamped the sentiment, from SU!'s Thoughts and Prayers set, on the Baja Breeze and used my slot punch to run some Kraft ribbon through and tie in a bow. The focal image is from the same set and was colored with SU! Chocolate Chip marker and a Baja Breeze reinker and my blender pen on Whisper White. I cut/embossed it with my new Labels Four Nestabilities die and matted it on Baja Breeze and Kraft cut/embossed with Petite Oval dies. The Baja Breeze and Kraft layers are separated by 3M foam squares and the whole thing is up on foam squares, as well. Some flat back pearls in two sizes accent the focal image and was all it needed to be finished, I think. You agree? I'm liking it!

Don't forget to check out the sketch at the Sketches! {by Tamara} blog and give it a try--we'd love to see what you come up with!

Thinking of you--Color Throwdown #39

Alrighty! It's time for another Color Throwdown Challenge! Here we are at #39 and the colors for this week were chosen by Cathy Indelicato: Real Red, Black, and Barely Banana.

These were fun colors to work with! I'd had this Buttermilk Hen Karen Lockhart stamp for some time and when I went to Ellen Hutson's store for inspiration I saw she was done with these very colors so I cased it! Serendipity!

My base card is Barely Banana with layers of Basic Black and DSP from the SU! Hostess Prints Pack in Real Red. Both layers were punched with a Martha Stewart border punch and have a black gingham ribbon tied around in a bow. The image was stamped on Gina K Pure Luxury card stock, colored with Copic markers (see below), was cut/embossed with a new Spellbinders Classic Inverted Scalloped Squares die, and is matted with Real Red and Basic Black cut/embossed with Classic Square dies. The colored image is up on 3M foam squares, then the entire focal image is popped up on more foam squares. The sentiment is from Verve's Circular Sayings set and was stamped on Gina K card stock and punched out with my oval punch, then layered with Basic Black punched with the Designer Label punch and is popped up on foam squares. A couple of red Dew Drops lend some color accent to the sentiment element and it's done!

C'mon over to the Color Throwdown blog and play along with us this week. If you upload your card to a public forum, please use the keyword CTD39 so we can see your beauty all in one place. And if you play, you *could* be picked as our Featured Stamper and a guest designer! Hope to see you there!

World's Best Teacher--MFT Idol Contest, Week 6

OK, I knew this week would be hard--we're down to six contestants in the MFT Idol Contest and we had last week off. But THIS! A one layer card!! How could they, LOL?!! If you've seen many of my cards you know I LOVE LAYERS AND DIMENSION!!! I can't remember EVER doing a one layer card! But, I must admit, this one was fun!!! It really didn't take me long to get my idea--which is usually the hardest part for me! I knew I wanted to create a scene and that it may include some masking. This one actually doesn't have much masking, but it looks like it does, don't you think? So, I rummaged through my Who's That Girl drawer and found one I hadn't inked up. Since my DH is a retired teacher, it was meant to be!

This truly is a one layer card. It looks like it has a black mat, but I created that look by cutting and embossing my card stock (Gina K. Pure Luxury 80 lb) with a Curved Rectangle Nestabilities die and using a black Copic marker, I colored the embossed edge by hand. Still a one layer card, but that gave it the appearance of a little dimension. Then I started creating the scene by marking my top margin and the baseboard lightly in pencil for positioning purposes. Next I stamped "The Girl" and masked her arm. Then I stamped the blackboard and stamped the sentiment on top with Whisper White Craft ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder (looks like chalk, doesn't it?). Next, I drew in the table by hand, using a Zig .01 black pen. The tabletop images were stamped next and then I drew in the flooring by hand. Everything was then colored with Copic markers (see below). After the coloring, the only thing left to do was to tie a ribbon (wonderful ribbon from MFT!) around the top to "frame" the scene, add a crayon charm tied on with gold cording, and glue part of a straight pin on as That Girl's pointer. Yeah, looks simple, and even though it *was* fun, it took a *lot* of time to plan and make. But I love it--I hope you do too and will vote for me. Voting starts tonight (Tuesday, April 21) at 10pm and runs through tomorrow night Wednesday, April 22) at 10pm. You can find the poll here at the MFT forum on SCS.

Thanks for dropping by today and wish me luck!

Special Day

Well, it's back to work today after a weekend off and it's raining. It would be a wonderful day to stay home and spend the day stampin' in my Girl Cave, but I've gotta support this habit, LOL!

This card is for Viva la Verve With a Twist #4 for April. The twist was to make you own patterned paper. My base card is River Rock (retired SU! In Color) with a layer of Basic Black and then a partial layer of River Rock stamped with the background stamp from Verve's Artful Elegance set with Basic Black ink. Then I tied a ribbon around with some of My Favorite Things' black satin ribbon with a piece of River Rock double stitched ribbon tucked in the knot. The sentiment is from the Birthday Surprise set, stamped on River Rock with Basic Black ink, cut/embossed with a Nestabilities Labels One die, matted with more die cuts, and is up on 3M foam square. Black Primas with River Rock punched flower centers and antique brass brads finish off the sketch. I thought the right corners looked empty, so I added some black faceted jewels. I think it's kinda elegant--how about you?

Thanks for dropping by today!
