MFT September Creative Challenge: Halloween Happenings + a Video

CCset_2014sep30

Hi, everyone, it’s time for this month’s MFT Design Team Creative Challenge! Our theme for this month is Halloween Happenings. I’ve got a card and a couple of treat containers for you—it’s a pretty long post so grab your favorite beverage and put your feet up :)

Today’s video will show you how I created the water color background with Scattered Bars Stencil and how I created the card and the witch’s hat treat box. You can see the video by clicking on the button below or HERE on YouTube.

Here’s a close up of the card elements, including the water color stenciled background, some embossed stenciling, and a Copic colored image.

Using a water brush and water color paper, I stenciled on Steel Gray Ink, Sour Apple Ink, Orange Fizz Ink, and Grape Jelly Ink with Scattered Bars Stencil, trimmed off 1” (saved for future use) and popped it up on a Black Licorice Card Stock base, onto which I stenciled some embossing paste using Starry Night Stencil. I stamped the image, from Witch Way Is the Candy? with Black Licorice Hybrid Ink on a Witch Way Is the Candy? Die-namics, cut from X-Press It Blending Card, colored it with Copic markers, and popped it up on foam. The sentiment is from the same set, stamped on Sweet Tooth Card Stock and also popped up on foam.

Here are the Copic markers I used on this card:

Another sentiment from the set was stamped on the inside.

My witch’s hat treat box was created with
Cone Treat Box Die-namics and Circle STAX Set 2 Die-namics, decorated with some baker’s twine.

And, finally, I made a treat sack from MFT felt to look like candy corn :)

I used Sweet Tooth Felt, Lemon Drop Felt, and Orange Fizz Felt.

Here’s how I started:

This shows how I pinned the sections together before stitching them.

Stitched…

Next I stitched the side seams, stuffing the threat ends from the previous stitching inside.

And here is is all stitched up, ready for some goodies and to be tied together with some twine.

A Pierced Traditional Tags STAX Die-namics tag was stamped with the sentiment, also from Witch Way Is the Candy?, and tied on with black twine.

Coffee and Friends Are the Perfect Blend - Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

coffebloghop_2014sep29

Hi, everyone! It’s time for the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop! How fun is this?! A bunch of coffee loving paper crafters doing a blog hop—couldn’t be better in my book!

Any coffee loving paper crafters are encouraged to get the details and link up HERE!

We were asked to answer a couple of questions, so here are my answers:

1. When did you start drinking coffee? I started drinking coffee when I worked in a hospital as an OR nurse—we needed that caffeine, LOL!

2. What is favorite brand (you can name up to three). I love Gevalia and have it on auto dial! I get a regularly scheduled shipment to keep me going.

3. What is the most amazing coffee that you had? Remember where and when? I really can’t think of any that was so outstanding that I remember it.

4. If I don't drink my needed coffee, I will... whine ;-)

So, let me tell you about my card :) I started with a Sweet Tooth Card Stock base, then, using Scattered Bars Stencil, water colored through the stencil with a water brush and Chocolate Brown Ink, Jellybean Green Ink, and Blu Raspberry Ink. I trimmed that, added a Chocolate Brown Card Stock mat, and popped it up on foam on the base. The sentiment, from Clearly Sentimental About Coffee, was stamped on a strip of Chocolate Brown Card Stock with Sweet Tooth Pigment Ink, heat embossed with white embossing powder, and popped up on foam. The cups, cut with Always Time For Tea Die-namics, were made by stamping them with images from Washi Patterns and More Washi Patterns with the same inks with which I water colored the background. The saucers were cut from Jellybean Green Card Stock, Chocolate Brown Card Stock, and Blu Raspberry Card Stock, then popped up on foam as well.

I finished off with a few enamel dots and added another sentiment from Clearly Sentimental About Coffee on the inside.

And that’s it for me! Thanks so much for stopping by—I’m off to hop!
