My Favorite Things February Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on My Favorite Things' February release blog hop! If you got here from Megan's blog, you're good to go, but if you just happened upon the hop, you really should go back to the beginning, to Kim's blog--you'll miss a ton of good stuff if you don't. So, if you've done that and you're back, let's get to it!

I'm showing you one of the new Pure Innocence stamps called Better Get Better. She retails for $9.00 and includes the two sentiments you see on this project.

Can you believe how stinkin' cute this is?! All of us girls "doctored" on our dolls and stuffed animals when we were little, right? Well, I grew up to be a nurse, so this stamp really "speaks" to me :) For my project, I made up a little "doctor's bag" gift package in which to put a few little get well items, along with a card.

Here's a close up of the card. I stamped the image on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers.

A close up of the bag:

And the inside of the card:

Again, I went searching for a template and alas, could find NONE, so I had to INVENT this wheel ;-) I'll show you how I did it.

1. Cut a 12 x 12 piece of black card stock to 11.5" x 9" and score at 2.5", 4.5", 7", and 9" on the long side and 2" and 7" on the short side.

2. Cut the flaps and round the corners of what will be the top of the bag as shown below.

3. Apply red line or ScorTape.

4. Assemble the bag. It will look like this:

5. Using two sizes of Classic Square Nestabilities dies, cut out four handles. Round the corners, and trim the "legs" to 1.5 inches from the top of the handles. Score at 1/2" from the bottom.

6. Attach flat magnets (I used Basic Grey) just above the score line on two of the handles. You'll have to figure out where to put the + and - pieces ;-)

7. Cover with the remaining two handle pieces and apply red line tape to the 1/2" scored section.

8. Attach to the bag top flaps as shown. The magnets will hold the top flaps together.

9. I knew I wanted the outside to look sort of like leather, so I embossed two A2 size pieces of black card stock with my Tiny Mosaic Texture embossing folder, then I patted my Versamark pad all over it, trying to keep the Versamark just on the raised areas, and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Then I trimmed it close and rounded the corners.

10. Score these pieces in the center. It's a little hard to do because of the heat embossing, but it's doable and will make it easier to attach. Attach to the bag front and back.

11. Embellish as desired.

Wanna see how much will fit inside this little bag? Here you go:

There's actually plenty of room for a tube of Chap Stick or the like, too.

I hope you enjoyed my little pictorial and feel inspired to make one of your own! If you do, I'd love to see it!

I'm SO glad you hopped by! NOW, head on over to the incredibly talented Michele's blog and see what visions of loveliness she has in store for you--I know you'll not be disappointed! And don't forget that one of the stops has some BLOG CANDY. But we're not tellin' where it is--you might want to be sure to leave some love at every stop to improve your chances of winning. I'm just sayin'...
