MFT March Creative Challenge–Teachers

This month's MFT Creative Challenge is to create a teacher themed project. Teacher appreciation will be in early May, so it’s definitely not too early to make a little something special for those special people in your kids’ lives Today the DT will give you a few ideas for that little something special, so be sure to check out who’s participating, on the MFT Blog.

I decided to make a teacher thank you card. I’m using the Teacher’s Pet set that I mostly paper pieced with a little Copic coloring. I thought I’d spend a little time showing you how I paper piece layers on images.

First of all, I stamp the image and cut out the pieces I will need. Tip: when you cut out, cut down the *center* of the stamped line, then you have a better chance of not having any lines over lap on your main layer. Also, after I cut out my piece, I go around the edge with a Copic marker to cover any white edges that will show on the finished project. I usually use a lighter color of marker than the stamping ink. When going around the piece, I hold the marker on the back, and at a slant to avoid getting marker on the front. Voice of experience, here ;-) This picture should show what I’m talking about.

Here I’m showing you how many layers I used on this image and how I stacked them. First, stamp the entire image on whatever your favorite coloring medium is. I really love the heavy stuff so I use Neenah Classic Crest Cover, Solar White Smooth, 130lb. If you liked the old Perfect Paper Panels, this is it. Anyway, stamp on your paper of choice and color whatever you’re not going to paper piece. Here are the three layers I used for this card.

After everything is colored and cut out, it’s time to adhere the layers. I like SU! 2 way glue pen and Quickie Glue Pen. I use the 2 way for larger areas and the pen for small, detailed areas.

Here’s the bottom layer with glue on all of the uncolored area. I think you can see where I applied the glue—there’s still a line all around that I’ll go over with the glue pen for accuracy.

Here, I’ve adhered the second layer and applied glue only to the area needed for layer #3.

And here’s the completed image, ready to be used on a card. And that’s it! Now I can proceed with making my card. I hope I gave you a point or two that you can use the next time you want to paper piece.

 

I just love the twine that MFT carries. I used Flax twine on this card to tie the button on—it’s pretty close to Kraft, and I dragged it over my Antique Linen Distress Ink pad to tone down the white a bit.

Here’s a close up of the sentiment—I stamped it on a Die-namics Mini Tab Foursome die cut and added the “4” using Die-namics By the Numbers. I’m using Die-namics Little Open Scallop Strip, as well.

Here’s the finished image, sponged with some Distress ink and matted with Sno Cone and  Hot Fudge card stock. You did know MFT is carrying card stock again, right? You can find it HERE. There’s also matching grosgrain ribbon, that you can find HERE. Just sayin’ ;-)

I decided to spruce up the inside, too, so I finished the sentiment that was started on the front, and then added a row of CUTE apple images. To line them up, I simply drew a pencil line all the way across and then stamped to the line. After I erased the line, I colored one of the apples.
