newproducttour_2012jul3

Welcome to MFT’s July New Product Tour! We’ll be showing you lots of ideas for using your new MFT products. You have been shopping already, right? Good. No? Then you need to head on over to the MFT Boutique and get to shopping! If you’ve already shopped, I hope you’ll take a look at our projects—you’re bound to get some awesome ideas. And don’t forget ONE of the MFT designers is holding some blog candy—a $50 gift voucher to spend in the MFT store! To have a chance to win it, you’ll need to leave a comment on each of the designers’ New Product Tour posts because I’m not tellin’ who it is.

Tonight I’m showing you
Inspired By the Sea. As soon as I started thinking about what I was going to make with this set, I knew it would be a banner. Our home office has a kind of nautical décor theme going on and I thought a small banner to hang in the bay window would be perfect!

First of all I cut out all my base pennants using the just released
Die-namics Rounded Banner STAX and Kraft card stock. Then I made another layer with some sweet nautical themed patterned paper. The banner has five pennants: the two outer pennants have ship’s wheels, the next ones in have shells, and the center one uses the tall ship image.

Now, let me take you through them all. First of all I cut out some
Sno Cone card stock using one of the new Die-namics Designer Labels 3 STAX dies and stamped all over it randomly with a flourish from Finishing Flourishes. I used Soft Suede ink stamped off once, then I sponged the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink. Next I stamped the ship’s wheel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored lightly with Copic markers. Before I popped it up on foam, I added a Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX burlap strip topped off with a new Die-namics Vine Border die cut. I think it’s PERFECT to use for sea weed, LOL! The topper was done with a Die-namics Simply Scallops Medium strip with a sailor’s knot made from cotton yarn adhered to it. It’s also popped up to hide the eyelets I put in the base. (The eyelets are to keep the holes from tearing when you tie the pennants together.)

Now on to the shell. The Die-namics Designer Labels 3 STAX layer got the same Finishing Flourishes treatment and then I added a Die-namics First Place Award Ribbon burlap strip and popped the shell up on it. Everything else is the same except I added a pearl flourish on top of the patterned paper.

Here’s a close up of the shell element. I actually stamped and hand cut two shell images for each of these pennants. After I colored them with Copic markers, I gave them a quick spritz with water and molded them in my palm to give them some dimension. Then I adhered the hinges together to make them more realistic.

BECAUSE…I wanted to put a pearl inside :) I know, I know, pearls come from oysters…mostly. Artistic license and all that, you know ;-)

And, finally, the tall ship. This pennant has a larger Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX strip and another Die-namics Designer Labels 3 STAX layer cut from patterned paper. The ship was stamped on more Finishing Flourishes- enhanced Sno Cone card stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, colored with Copic markers, and hand cut out. It’s also popped up on foam with one of the sweet Die-namics Flat-Bottom Clouds peeking out around the sails. It was cut from Whip Cream card stock and stamped with a flourish.

I was having so much fun with this set that I decided to make a card while I had everything out. The ship and clouds were done in the exact same way as on the banner. I added another Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX burlap strip and some cheesecloth “fish net” for texture, then I could not resist putting that ship down into some water made with my Die-namics Catch a Wave die cuts. A little whimsy along with the vintage. Love. I distressed some edges and added a twine-tied button with the anchor from the new Die-namics Sea Charms set to finish it off.

Well, that’s it for my project. As always, I hope to inspire you to think outside of the box. If you can imagine it, you can do it.

Here are the Die-namics dies I used on this project:
