My Favorite Things Teaser - Day Two

Last month, the Triple Scoop was this new sentiment set: Clearly Sentimental About Emerson. I love sentiment sets--just love them!! Especially if they have sentiments that can stand as a focal image like this one does. If you didn't get it as a Triple Scoop special, you now have the chance--it's being released on February 3, along with 13 other sets--including 3 Pure Innocents and 3 from a brand new illustrator that you're gonna LOVE!!

I stamped my image on a Cream Perfect Paper Panel even thought I wasn't going to color with Copics. This paper is very stout and I wanted the focal element to have lots of body. Then I distressed it with a distressing tool and stitched it onto some Basic Gray card stock. Otherwise, it's a pretty simple card, but I did try some of that random stitching that I've been admiring out there in blog land. And I like it!

My Favorite Things Teaser - Day One!

Oh, my glory! Look at Flopsey with a basket full 'o hearts! This set is called Basket Full 'o Flopsey and will be released on Wednesday, February 3, at 10pm EST.

For my project, I'd been wanting to make one of these little heart baskets and Flopsey was a perfect reason to do it. I got the template here. I cut out the template using Riding Hood Red paper, added a Soft Suede layer, then a layer from Be Loved by MME. I stamped Flopsey on a Perfect Paper Panel with Rich Cocoa ink, colored him with Copic markers, cut him out, and popped him up on 3M foam squares. I stamped the sentiment on Very Vanilla and cut it out with a heart Nestabilities die, then I stamped some hearts from Thinking of Hoo? and popped it up as well. Some ribbon and a button tied on with twine finish it off! I love it :)

Sweet treats - Crazy 4 Challenges #22

Happy Saturday!!! Saturday means it's time for another Crazy 4 Challenges challenge! Lori's got another fun challenge for us today--she wants us to use a lollipop on our card or project. ANY kind of lollipop :)

So, for my project, I used an image from My Favorite Thing's I Want Candy set. I stamped it on a Perfect Paper Panel and colored it with Copic markers, then went over it with a Sakura glitter pen for some shimmer.

I'm using Mojo Monday Sketch #123 for my layout. I'm not a fan of round cards so I took the challenge--I'm not overjoyed with it, but it is what it is ;-)

Bleeding heart - Stamp Simply #124

Are you ready for a new Stamp Simply challenge? Sharon's got another fun one for us today: Bleeding Heart. She wants us to use a heart and the color red on our card or project.

For my card, I decided to take Sharon very literally and go with Flourishes' Bleeding Heart flower stamp from their Spring Ephemerals set. I stamped it on some paper from Basic Grey's Scarlett's Letter paper. I LOVE that collection and am hoarding what I have left, but it was just too perfect for this project--that silhouette flower works so well with this paper. I stamped the image with SU! Basic Black Craft ink and heat embossed with black detail embossing powder. I find if I use black ink and black powder that I get much better coverage than either one alone. I'm using Mercy's sketch for this week, so for the scalloped interest at the bottom, I used some heavy black lace. Card stock is Riding Hood Red and Basic Black. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black for the excellent coverage it provides, punched it out, matted it, and popped it up on a 3M foam square. The image element is also popped up, on Pop Dots. Lastly, I added some red crystals to the lace and the sentiment. I love how it turned out! And hey, look--no ribbon, no buttons ;-)

Tomorrow is a new day

I have another Blooming Button Bits card for you today. Very simple, one layer--if you don't count the popped up flower :) I stamped the leaf image and the sentiment on Rustic Cream with Ripe Avocado ink. Then I stamped the big flower on Vintage Cream with Raspberry Fizz ink and cut it out. It didn't turn out as dark as I'd wanted--need to practice more with that new formulation of ink, I'm thinking. I added a huge button from my Lemon Tart Vintage buttons (finally a use for those big honkin' buttons!) and a tiny flower-shaped one from Raspberry Fizz Vintage buttons collection, both tied on with Vintage Twine. Then I tied some Raspberry Fizz grosgrain ribbon around in a knot and called it done!

Color Throwdown #77

Howdy, peeps! Are you ready for another Color Throwdown? The mega talented Cathy has chosen our colors this week and I love 'em!!! She picked:
I'm always happy where there's a green involved, 'cause that means I can most likely do a flower of some kind :) So, for this card, I chose to do the next image in Flourishes' A Year In Flowers Calendar Set 1. I remembered that this Euphoria paper by Basic Grey had all the challenge colors in it, and, I'd been wanting to do this CCEE challenge, with a sketch by my friend, Cindy Haffner. So the hardest part was done: choosing the paper and the layout ;-)

I stamped the image on a Perfect Paper Panel from MFT with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then I cut it out and popped it up on 3M foam squares on a layer of Whisper White cut/embossed with a Labels Nine Nestabilities die. I left it in the die and air brushed some B00 Copic marker for a background, then layered it on Elegant Eggplant, then the whole thing was also popped up. The upper right corner looked a little bare, so I did some paper piercing with an Ornare template and added some flat backed pearls. I'm not sure I like the pearls--overkill, maybe, but there was no going back. They were stuck and threatened to tear my paper if I tried too hard to take them off. The sentiment was stamped with Tuxedo Black ink, punched out with a oval punch, layered on another oval of Elegant Eggplant, and more pearls added. Some luscious green ribbon tied around in a bow finished it off!

I decided to do the SCS CAS challenge for this week--#51. The challenge is to use designer paper on your CAS card. OK, I can do that :)

I was totally inspired by this ribbon. Sorta non-traditional but that's why I like it, LOL! I stamped the hearts from Background Basics: Hearts on Baja Breeze with Pure Poppy ink and added the ribbon. For my flower (CASEd from Dawn's post here), I used my Peony Nestabilities and cut three sizes--one with Pure Poppy Bitty Box Basics, one from Baja Breeze DSP, and for the top layer, I stamped another image from Background Basics: Hearts on Vintage Cream with Pure Poppy. I knew I had one more heart shaped button in my Pure Poppy Vintage Button jar, so I tied that on with Rustic Twine. The sentiment is from Simple Valentine. I sponged the edges of the flower layers and the Baja Breeze layer with Vintage Touch ink.

Dance, Sing, Live - Viva la Verve!

Finally a chance to do a Viva la Verve challenge. The twist this year is inspiration and each month there are pictures of a different room to inspire each week. I just loved one for this week with a foyer done in mostly white with some black and a little hint of bright green. LOVE it, I say! So that's what I picked and here's my card:

If I do say so myself, I love how it turned out--pretty much like I'd planned it in my head and I love how girly it looks! I flipped the base card and I used an oval instead of a circle, because I wanted to use this sentiment, from Verve's Beautiful You set.

I'm using patterned paper from Black Market Paper Society's Ebony and Alabaster 6 x 6 pad. The small white panel is actually embossed with my Cuttlebug Textile folder but you can't really see it. Then, instead of ribbon, I added some black lace with clear jewels attached. Prima flowers and leaves add some interest and more of the green. The centers of the Primas are more designer thumb tacks--this time from Wal*Mart! You never know when and where you'll find something to use on a card, LOL! Huh, would ya look at that; nary a button in sight ;-)

CAS Birthday

I'd been wanting to try the "poofy" flowers that Dawn McVey demonstrated in a video that you can find here and I finally got around to it. I just love the look of them! I had my DH go to Goodwill and find an old book with just the right amount of yellowing to the pages and he did a fantastic job! The color looks so good with Kraft that I had to use it. Again. Yeah.

And you can't beat Kraft and black but I decided I'd done that enough so I added Ripe Avocado to the mix. Just enough, I think, in the layer, the button tied on with twine, the ribbon, and the tiny flat backed pearls accenting the sentiment. I stamped the strip of black polka dots using Polka Dot Basics II (really has become my go to set for backgrounds and accent strips) and True Black ink and the sentiment from Everyday Classics. I like it! CAS and quick and easy. The flower really sets it off, don't you think? I love that flower and will be making many more. I don't have a scalloped circle punch so I used my Scalloped Classic Circle Nestabilities and it worked like a charm. The pages in this book are not very thick, so I was able to cut all five layers at the same time. Before I bradded them together, I swiped the edges with Vintage Touch ink for a little more aging.

For my card, I pulled out an older My Favorite Things set called Valentine Flopsey. Looks like it's out of stock right now but keep checking back. I stamped Flopsey on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored him with Copic markers. Then I cut him out and popped him up on a Nestabilities heart with 3M foam squares. My layout is Card Positioning Systems' Challenge #150. Following the sketch, I added Vintage buttons on each side of Flopsey, tied on with Rustic Twine.

Very Vintage - Stamp Simply #123

Where does the time go!? It's Friday again so that means it's Stamp Simply day!! Sharon has a very fun and right-up-my-alley challenge today: Vintage. She wants us to make a card or project with a vintage feel.

So, I immediately thought of this My Mind's Eye Life Stories paper--it has a decidedly vintage feel to it, and I'm using Mojo Monday #122 for my layout. Love that lined paper--it's enough interest without being too busy. And it's subtle enough that I could stamp the focal image and sentiment on it--from Verve's Miracles Blossom set--without it getting lost in the pattern. I added some lace with narrow ribbon threaded through and tied in a dainty little bow, some Primas and leaves (I didn't have any burgundy Primas so my trusty Copics came to my rescue), and some Vintage buttons for balance. The centers of the Primas are flat backed pearls. I'm pretty happy with the way this card turned out.

With Heartfelt Sympathy

I just got my new PTI stamps and had to play!! This one is from Through the Trees and I didn't have to think twice about getting it--it flew into my shopping cart, LOL! The background image is new too--it's from Background Basics: Petal Power.

I stamped all of the images, including the sentiment (which comes with Through the Trees) On Enchanted Evening card stock with Versamark and heat embossed them with white detail embossing powder. I matted the focal image with a layer of Soft Stone card stock and popped it up on foam squares and a strip of silvery gray satin ribbon adds just enough embellishment, I think.

This card was very simple--the only thing that took any time was the embossing. And what do you know--I *can* make a card with out buttons. But I confess I did look in my stray button drawer for a suitable silver one ;-)

So, I veered a little bit from the challenge colors because I so wanted to use this new apple paper I got from KI Memories’ School Days collection called Teacher’s Pet. I used Old Olive, Crushed Curry, and Bravo Burgundy—same color families, LOL. Hope Tammy won’t call out the color police on me ;-)

I stamped my little Pure Innocence – Apple For You image on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then I added some grass with a new border punch I just got—couldn’t wait to play with it. I’m using Mercy’s Sketch #57 for my layout.

I’ve been wanting a cooking themed WTG and now I’ve got her!! I need to get my recipes organized and I’ve also been wanting to make pretty recipe cards for all my favorites. I love to bake, so this set is simply PERFECT for the collection I have in mind. I found this little photo album at a craft store for $1! I thought it would be just the thing to slip my recipe cards into—they’ll be protected (I’m a messy cook, LOL!) and can be easily seen. Here’s what it looked like when I bought it:

And, here it is after I altered it.

I used Basic Grey’s new Nook and Pantry 6 x 6 paper for the cover (the back has the same patterned paper cover, just no image or embellishments). I stamped the image on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and pretty much totally paper pieced it, coloring only WTG’s skin, the “wooden” spoon, and adding some shading to the bowl. I stamped the sentiment on more patterned paper and punched it out with a heart punch—suitable, I thought :) You *know* I had to add a button somewhere, LOL! I added a little ribbon detail and a button from MFT’s Summer collection, tied on with twine. And, a few Dew Drops at the top for balance. Then I stamped out R E C I P E S with Alpha Dots, matted the letters, and added them to the spine of the book.

I think this is going to look mighty spiffy on the book shelf in my kitchen :)

OK, one more Blooming Button Bits card and I’ll quit—for now, LOL! For this one, I started with a Stamper’s Select White base and added a layer of Kraft.

I stamped a strip with a stamp from Polka Dot Basics II with Dark Chocolate, then I stamped the image on more white with Dark Chocolate ink and added Melon Berry Vintage Buttons, tied on with Rustic Twine. I sponged the edges of this element with a little Vintage Touch ink in Chamomile to soften the edges a bit. I stamped the sentiment on Melon Berry card stock with Dark Chocolate and popped it up on 3M foam circles. A Melon Berry grosgrain ribbon finished it off, Clean and Simple and I love it!

I just love me some buttons, you know, so I pulled out my Everyday Button Bits and proceeded to make this card.

First, I stamped the "grass" image with Ripe Avocado ink on Vintage Cream paper and the balloon baskets with Dark Chocolate ink. Then I cut /embossed them with a Classic Square Nestabilties die and matted it with Dark Chocolate. Then I tied the buttons on with Vintage twine and popped it up with 3M foam squares on the base. I think the rest is pretty self explanatory--this was a quick and fun card!

It's your day.

I've got a little gifty idea for you today using the image from My Favorite Things' latest kit - Bath Time. I wanted to show you how you can expand on the kit and images. In this case, I'm using one of the die cut boxes from an earlier kit that's no longer available. This little gable box perfectly fits a bar of hand made soap that I picked up at a craft fair. I made this little set for a birthday gift.

The images were stamped on Perfect Paper Panels with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and paper pieced for the most part. The only coloring with Copic marker is on the legs, where I used E50 and E51. I ran the top layer of base card paper through my Cuttlebug with the my Swiss Dots folder and then swiped the top with Whisper White Craft ink to give the dots more definition. The eyelet lace has Groovy Guava ribbon threaded through it with a bow. I'm using paper from a retired SU! DSP called Afternoon Tea which I love--I thought the flowered stripe was *perfect* for the wallpaper!

Be Mine...Valentine - Crazy 4 Challenges #20

Ready for another Crazy 4 Challenges challenge? Well, Lori's got a fun sketch for us today--you can check it out at the C4C blog.

My card uses a Waltzingmouse set called Seasons of Love, stamped on Kraft paper with PTI Ripe Avocado ink, with the sentiment done in Ocean Tides. Patterned paper is from the My Mind's Eye Life Stories collection. For the ribbon treatment, I punched a 1/4" round hole and just threaded the ribbon through it, then tied a button around the ribbon with twine to hold it in place. I used crocheted lace across the bottom and attached buttons to it with twine, as well. I love this sketch and how this card turned out!!!

Spring Primrose - Stamp Simply #122

It's Stamp Simply time!!! This week, Sharon wants us to do something with flowers in Spring colors. OK, so mine is kinda dark, but you see the Spring flowers there, right? Right? ;-)

Here's what Sharon says:

Mid-Winter Perk-me-up! Today we are all going to create projects with a floral theme and some fresh spring-time colors - whatever says *Spring* to you! Let’s just forget our cold temps and think of those beautiful flowers due to pop up once spring does hit! Just Think Spring and have some fun!

I've had this new Origins paper from Basic Grey several weeks and couldn't help myself--I just had to use it! I'm also using the February flower from Flourishes' A Year In Flowers Calendar Set 1. I stamped it on a Perfect Paper Panel (I really {heart} this paper for Copics!) with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then, I wanted this graph paper-like background for it so I cut it out and popped it up on 3M foam squares. I'm using Mercy's sketch for this week and I love how this turned out. All edges are sponged with PTI's Vintage Touch ink and the sentiment was punched out with a small oval punch and popped up, as well. Some cheerful sheer yellow ribbon brightens it up. Look, Ma, no buttons ;-)
