Gardeners Know the Best Dirt - MFT Teaser, Day Three

It's Pure Innocence teaser day so it must be Monday! Happy Monday and Happy Memorial Day to my US readers! MFT has three new Pure Innocence sets for you this month. I know, I know! They just keep coming, don't they ;-) I'm showing you Pure Innocence Mud Buddies and if you'll hit Kim's blog at 11:00am EDT today, she'll have a list of the other designers posting teasers today and I'm sure you'll see more of this set plus Pure Innocence Lollypop Girl and Pure Innocence A Cart Full of Friends.

Anyone who knows me knows I love to garden so I just had to do this one for my teaser today. Just look at her in her overalls and her Wellies!!! OMGosh--how stinkin' cute is she?! I thought a card holding a package of seeds would be a cute thing to do, but I wanted something a little different with this image. So, I made up a pot shaped card. I drew it free-hand so I don't have a template and I didn't take pictures since I was making it up as I went along. But I'll tell you its a "U" shaped card, not a "V" shaped one. I made two score marks at the top, 1/8" apart, so there would be room inside for the seed package. Hope all that made some sense, LOL. If not, shoot me an email and I'll try to explain it better. I stamped the image on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then I cut her out and popped her up on a little scene with some digi paper from the Sheltering Tree pack and some torn Fossil card stock (did I mention that I love this cardstock!?). Cut that out with a Nestabilities die and the rest was embellishing. I used little flat backed pearls for the seeds. Buttons are from MFT's Summer collection (blue button) and Chocolate Kiss collection (brown buttons). Before I started adding stuff to the base card, I did some shading for the pot rim with Copic markers and sponged on some green distress ink to simulate moss. It shows up better in real life, but I think it could stand to be darker.

Emma Blowing Kisses - MFT Teaser, Day Two

Happy Sunday!! I've got another MFT sneak for you today--Emma Blowing Kisses. There are two more sets sneaking today as well: Fred Bear & the Butterfly and Wyatt Says WOW. You can see samples of all of the new sets today if you check in at Kim's blog at 11:00am EDT--she'll have a list of the DT members with some goodness to show you. This little girl is modeled by Kim's little girl, Emma! I had the pleasure of meeting Little Miss Emma in person at CHA last summer and she is just as adorable as her namesake stamp image!


I'm also showing you my Fresh Cut Grass Die-namics die in action. Folks, this thing cuts that MFT felt (I'm using the Outdoor Essentials collection) like butter! Not a stray fiber anywhere--so clean! I'm also using the Scalloped Scallop border die--I swear, I can't get enough of these dies! I stamped Emma on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored her with Copic markers and paper pieced her dress. Other MFT products that I used are Sour Apple card stock (can't get enough of this either, apparently, LOL--it's fast becoming one of my favorite greens!) and the Spring button collection.

Thanks a Bunch - MFT June Teaser, Day One and C4C #39

I've got lots to tell you today in this post!

First of all, it's the first day of MFT stamp sneak peeks. You saw the dies yesterday, but today you'll be seeing three new sets as you visit the DT. I'm showing you Thanks a Bunch, which was a previous Triple Scoop set and now will be available on it's own. Second, the uber-talented Michele Boyer and I are hosting the MFT Guest Designer Challenge this month. The theme is Some Like It Hot. Happy Memorial Day - MFT Die-namics and Stamp Simply #141

May 28 - ssnotime141 - Flying High and Proud Color Challenge - This marks the beginning of Memorial Day Weekend in the USA, a time we remember and honor those who have so bravely and proudly served our country. Realizing we have blog readers that span the world, today our challenge is to make a card or any project using the colors in your country's flag. The project can be patriotic in nature, but it's not necessary. PLEASE when you upload your creation, tell us your country and your flag's colors. It'll be fun to see how many different countries we see!!!

I was looking at my MFT scalloped dies and thought they might work to make red, white, and blue bunting for my card. And I was right--I love how it turned out! The card construction is simple so I won't bore you with details, but I just cut my scalloped layers (the bottom layer is the Scalloped Scallop die and the others are the Jumbo Scallop (which seems to be out of stock at the moment) and punched out some little stars. The sentiment was computer generated and I embossed the top part with a my Stars folder.


NOW! MFT is introducing some fabulous new dies in June and you can see some samples using them if you'll head over to Kim's blog at 11:00am EDT this morning--she'll have a list of the DT members showing the new dies. But here's a little sneak at them now:

CAS-tastic Challenge - A Touch Of Green

Today is also CAS-tastic Challenge day! Today's challenge is A Touch Of Green.

So, OK, I might have more than a "touch" of green on this card. But it *is* CAS ;-) I think there's not much that needs 'splainin' about it. I embossed the white paper with PTI's Tin Types Impression Plate first of all. The flower was cut with PTI's Beautiful Blooms II dies and then I added some Glitzy Glitter to spark it up a bit. The sentiment is from PTI's Mother set, stamped with True Black ink. And I tried out Laurie's tutorial for these easy leaves--aren't they CUTE?!

For my card I'm using a digi image called Kitty Cake. I printed it on a piece of One Sheet Wonder card stock, colored with Copic markers and shaded with Prismacolor pencils. I'm using a Mojo Monday sketch from a couple of weeks ago for my layout and some new Max and Whiskers paper from Basic Grey. I've also got a die cut piece of cork and some black twill, along with some Pearl Cotton and a button for embellishments. The sentiment was computer generated, cut out, and matted.

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

It's time for another Papertrey Ink customer blog hop! This month's challenge is to use felt. I decided to veer away from a card this time and make something wearable and turned some el cheapo flip flops into designer flip flops. I LOVE them! They are so easy to make and so stinkin' CUTE! Imagine the color combo possibilities!!
I wore these to work last week and got squeals from the girls :) I used the daisy flower dies and cut out 2 of each size--one each of True Black and Hawaiian Shores felt, then I stacked them and sewed a button on top and a button on the bottom, using Pearle cotton and tying it into a tiny bow on top. The bottom button is to make them detachable and interchangeable. I also have turquoise flip flops that these can go with and I want to use other color combos on these black ones. To make them detachable, I used some of those tiny black hair rubber bands and wound them around the straps and hooked them onto the button. I wore them all day and they stayed put!


For these, I used the scallop flower dies and for each flip flop I cut four Vintage Cream and four Raspberry Fizz pieces. I got the flower idea from some fabric flowers I saw and had these finished before I saw Dawn McVey's coffee cozies last week. If I'd seen them first, I'd have only done one layer of felt "petals" and used a big ol' button for the center. That would have been much simpler and that's the plan for next time ;-) Same deal with sewing on the buttons and attaching with the tiny rubber bands for these. These flip flops were $3 at Wal*Mart (and I found more at another store priced at $2!) and they are super comfy. Needless to say, I have lots of colors sitting in my Girl Cave, ready to be turned into designer flip flops. Can't wait to get more colors of felt to play with now!

Velta is challenging us to "make our own flowers"! I know you have seen all of these wonderful dimensional homemade flowers being used everywhere. You know I'm all about hand made paper flowers so I'm lovin' this challenge! Here's my card--first of all,I stamped the large image from Birds and Vines on a piece of patterned paper from 7 Gypsies' Gypsy Market paper. I inked up the leaves with Memento Bamboo Leaves and the flower heads with Memento Rhubarb Stalk. Then I stamped the sentiment from Thank You in Memento Rich Cocoa. I wanted deep rich colors to match the tone of the paper. Next, I stitched all around, sponged it with Distress Ink in Tea Dye, and roughed up the edges a bit. Finally, I made the paper flowers from more of the Gypsy Market paper and attached them along with some die cut leaves.

I had to give my PTI 2009 Anniversary set, Round & Round, another spin. I inked up the flowers with SU! markers, huffed, and stamped on Rustic White card stock for the center medallion, then I added some background with Copic markers. The flourished layer was cut out with a Labels Ten Nestabilities die and the circle was popped up on Pop Dots. The large scalloped layer was cut with MFT's Jumbo Scallop die, the buttons are from MFT's Summer Collection, and the base card is MFT's Fossil card stock (out of stock right now). The sentiment is from Round & Round, stamped in Dark Chocolate ink. And, of course, I did some stitching and sponged the edges with a Vintage Touch ink pad.

Happy Birthday - OLW5

A couple of weeks ago I discovered Susan Raihala's one layer card challenge on Wednesdays. Since I'm trying to learn to do OLC better I was intrigued. This is the first chance I've had to play along and let me say it was definitely a challenge! There's always a "twist" and this week the twist was to add a faux embellishment--meaning a stamped embellishment.


I have a couple of options along this line but I chose to use this Stampendous rick rack stamp set that had been catching dust and had never seen ink. As you can see, I went VERY CAS and stamped the largest image twice--once with PTI Hibiscus Burst and once with Orange Zest. Then I stamped the sentiment from PTI's Birthday Basics set in True Black.

Whoa. OK, then. I can't believe I made this card. And I'm posting it. Whoa. Must say it was quick to make. And to write about ;-)

I stamped this image from Through the Trees with Dark Chocolate Ink and added the birds with Pure Poppy ink. Then I put a Dark Chocolate frame around it to qualify for TLC273 at SCS: I've Been Framed. A ribbon, some stitching, and a sentiment and it was done!

First of all, I want to thank every one who left birthday greetings for me yesterday! I loved every single sweet one and appreciate them more than you'll ever know--you all helped to make my day extra special!

It's time for another Stamp Simply challenge! Today Sharon wants us to go askew. Here's what she says:

May 21 - ssnotime140 - Gone Askew - Today's challenge is something I like to fall back on if I'm in a super hurry to make a card because it's just so easy -- place your focal image askew on your card -- no trying to center it or mat it perfectly -- just place it askew. I love this look and it just doesn't get any easier!!! I'm so anxious to see your askew creations!

I wanted to make an easy card so I started looking through my Crafty Secrets Summertime Journal Notes that I got from Sharon's store and ran across this image. It struck me immediately that it would work really well with my Graphic 45 On the Boardwalk paper, also from Sharon's store. This was a super easy and quick card to put together--just lots of layers and very simply stamped. The sentiment was stamped on a piece of patterned paper with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and a stamp from PTI's Mega Mixed Messages set. As they say, easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Absolutely fabulous - CTD # 93 and CAS-tastic

So, it's Wednesday again so that means it's Color Throwdown and CAS-tastic Challenge day. The CTD colors were chosen by Danielle and are:
The CAS-tastic challenge was to make a one layer card. I'm still learning how to do them, but I love how a good one looks. I'll keep trying :) I'm using Fall-To Layout #90 and SCS Inspiration Challenge #232. This pattern was my inspiration piece.

OK, so let me say right up front that these colors were TOUGH for me! But that's what makes it a challenge, right? Right.

First of all, I made some score lines at the top and bottom of my card front. You can't really see the top ones because the ribbon covers them, but at the time I was scoring, I didn't really know what I was going to do ;-)

Then I masked the score lines so I wouldn't stray over them and stamped the three colors randomly, sorta like the inspiration pattern, using a stamp from PTI's Turning a New Leaf set. I added a pink gingham ribbon, some silver flat backed pearls, and stamped the sentiment in PTI Smokey Shadow ink.

So, here's my card. I love this set because I try to live sorta green--light green, maybe, LOL? I am using recycled paper with DCWV Green Mat Stack and I used a brown paper grocery bag to paper piece WTG's bags and for the sentiment. Every little bit helps, right? I stamped the image (and there's ANOTHER WTG image in this set, along with several wonderful sentiments, that will knock your socks off!) on a Perfect Paper Panel and mostly paper pieced it with a little Copic coloring. I think the mechanics are pretty obvious, except I did use the Jumbo Scallop and Scalloped Scallop Die-namics dies for the horizontal element--it's hard to see in this picture, but they're there. Other MFT products I used are Wild Cherry and Sour Apple card stock, and a Summer Collection button on my twill bow.

Taylored Expressions Blast From the Past Blog Hop

You've either happened upon Taylored Expressions' very first Blast From the Past Blog Hop or you're here from another site on the hop. Whichever, WELCOME, I'm so glad you stopped by!

I decided to use the sketch Taylor supplied for us and I used two TE sets for my card: Discover Your Wings for the focal image and the sentiment is from Faith and Hope. I stamped the focal image (which is only a portion of the largest stamp in the set) on Very Vanilla card stock, using markers to color the image. Then I proceeded to sponge it with several Distress Inks (Wild Honey, Olive, Tea Dye, Walnut Stain, Rusty Hinge) until I got the color I was looking for. The patterned paper is from 7 Gypsies 6 x 6 pad and is called Gypsy Market. It's distressed both with a distressing tool and Distress Inks for a vintage look. The sentiment was stamped on the reverse of the base paper with Versafine Onyx Black and it also has it's edges sponged. Finally, I added some embellishments and it was done--the black "ribbon" is actually twill but it's hard to tell from this picture.
