The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month, we were challenged to create Holiday Home Decor using our MFT Stamps and Die-namics. Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all participating designers who have a project to share with you today.
Hi, everyone! This challenge was so timely for me! I make lots of home décor items anyway, so, two birds, one stone!
First up, a framed piece. I stained my $1 Michaels frame with Barn Door Distress Stain and then streaked it up with some Vintage Photo Distress Stain for the aged look. While that was drying, I started on the image to be framed. I cut some music patterned paper to fit the opening, sponged the edges, then constructed my Die-namics Winter Wreath of three layer of patterned paper. After I adhered it to the music paper, I added some red jewels for berries, then popped up one of the new Die-namics Dainty Bows, made with Red Hot card stock. Here’s a close up of the wreath.
The sentiment is from Clearly Sentimental About Christmas, and was stamped on Natural card stock, sponged, and popped up on foam. Here’s a close up.
Notice my garland? I decided to see if I could use the wreath to make a garland and I love how it turned out! I simply cut out the wreath, tore it apart so I had one long piece, and just sort of carefully manipulated it so it was more or less in a straight line. Then I adhered it to the frame and added more jewels. Easy peasy! Here’s a close up of the garland, with two layers.
OK, I know banners were the theme of last month’s Creative Challenge but, well, you know I love banners! And they definitely qualify as home décor, right?
This time I went Shabby Chic, or as I saw it described the other day, Vintage Hip. Love that! I started by cutting some burlap fabric out with my Die-namics Jumbo Banner Day STAX. I cut two for each pennant and zig zag stitched them together. I added a smaller size of STAX to the back (just adhered with my tape runner) for some stability since burlap is so loosely woven.
Then I made some medallions using my Die-namics 1/4” Rosette die and glittered up the edges with some German glass glitter, added a Die-namics Mini Doily Circles die cut and popped up a Die-namics By the Letters letter. I added a Die-namics Royal Rose and Die-namics Royal Leaves to some pennants…
…and a Die-namics Let It Snowflake and Die-namics Mini Royal Rose to others.
I connected the headers together by hot gluing some ribbon across the tops as a base, then I made a braid from some heavy jute cord and some tinsel twine, then hot glued that on top of the ribbon. To finish it off, I added a seam binding bow and a hemp cord-tied button between each pennant. Here it is hanging on the shelf that will be it’s home during the Christmas season :) LOVE the contrast of the burlap and glitter!
And, finally, another little banner. I hadn’t had a chance to use the new Die-namics Jumbo Stocking so I got it out for this one. I used several shades of dark blue for it because I’m going to use with some other cobalt blue decorations.
For the two outer stockings, I added the holly leaves and berries that are part of the set. I cut the letters out of silver glitter paper with, again, Die-namics By the Letters and popped them up on a Die-namics Circle STAX layered on a Die-namics Open Scallop Doily Duo die cut.
For the center stocking, I did the same, but also added a Die-namics Winter Wreath cut from metallic silver paper and added a little gingham bow to finish it off.
The stocking are attached to the ribbon/tinsel twine hanger with clothes pins cover with glitter paper and in-between the stockings there’s a clear faceted button tied on with silver cord.
Here are the Die-namics dies I used on these projects:
And that’s all from me today! Hope to have inspired you to try your hand at home décor using MFT Die-namics and stamps! See you back here tomorrow for this week’s MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge!
