Just a Note–CTD #265

CTD265_2013oct23

Hi, everyone! It’s
Color Throwdown time! This week Vickie has an awesome color combo for us based on a striking inspiration piece.

swatch 265

I started with a Baked Brown Sugar card base and popped up a Sweet Tooth card stock panel. To add some texture to that white panel, I stenciled on some molding paste with MPD Scallops stencil. Then I cut out a LLD Insert It – InstaFrame Die-namics and stamped with with Baked Brown Sugar ink using LJD Spring Backgrounds. I popped that up on foam and added a Washi Tape Die-namics die cut from Not Quite Navy card stock and stamped with More Washi Patterns and Not Quite Navy ink. I added a Leaf-Filled Flourish Die-namics cut from Pistachio Pudding and a Royal Rose Die-namics cut from Crisp Cantaloupe. I stamped the sentiment, from More Essential Sentiments, with Black Licorice ink and added some matching enamel dots to finish it off.

Here’s the inside with another sentiment from More Essential Sentiments.

Countdown to Christmas–MFT October DT Creative Challenge

creativechallenge_2013oct22

The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month, Countdown to Christmas!  Look forward to an assortment of creations from today's participating designers as we explore creative ways to use out MFT products in a Christmas countdown project.  Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all the designers who have a project to share with you today.

This was SUCH a fun challenge! I’m always looking for new décor items, especially for Christmas, and this was perfect! I’d been toying with the idea of doing an advent calendar but with no little kiddos it seemed a little overkill for my house. I wanted something that would be interactive, though, so I came up with this idea—a chalkboard for the countdown! I love it! I especially love the retro look of what I ended up with. When I started I only had a general idea of what I was going to do and it evolved from there. Here’s how I went about it:

I started with this heavy chipboard picture frame and painted the whole thing a nice cobalt blue. Since this will hang in my dining room, I kept the colors I use in that room in mind along the way. After that, I used my MPD Stargaze stencil and stenciled on some molding paste. After I dried the molding paste, I sponged in some Sweet Tooth pigment ink to simulate far-away stars.

Then I used my Snow Drifts Die-namics and my Tree Lines Die-namics and created my snow layers. Since I was working with an area larger than a card base, I had to finagle these dies to cut across the whole thing. I did a lot of measuring and ended up using both Snow Drift Die-namics dies at the same time to go all across the paper. Same thing with my Tree Lines Die-namics. I cut them both bigger than I knew I’d need and then trimmed to fit the frame once I got them lined up together.

After I got my trees and snow adhered to the frame—the top layer is popped up on foam, I went about the sentiment. I cut my letters from By the Letters Die-namics and popped them up on foam, too. The apostrophe in front of the “‘til” is the top part of the “i” adhered at a slant.

And, finally, I used the darling snowman from Snow Globe Die-namics and popped him up on foam, too. He fits in perfectly with the overall retro look of this piece. The actual “chalkboard” is chalkboard card stock and actually works pretty well with real chalk. For long term use, I might buy a small chalkboard and have my DH cut it to fit the frame opening, but this works for now.

To finish it off, I hot glued some red jute cord to a piece of chalk and then hot glue the other end to the back of the frame. It’ll just hang around, waiting to be used every day.

And that’s it! Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you will get inspired to make your own Christmas countdown project!

Lifetime of Happiness–C4C #208

 C4C208_2013oct19

Hi, there, everyone! It’s time for Crazy 4 Challenges again! Today Silke Ledlow has a sketch challenge for us and she’s added the twist of a color AND theme challenge, so head on over to the Crazy 4 Challenges blog to get all the details. I thoroughly enjoyed working all the angles of this challenge—thanks for a great one, Silke!!

The theme is wedding card, with the colors gold, peach, and two greens for the palette. I started with a gold metallic card base and added the strips on the next layer which was stamped with an image from MFT’s Finishing Flourishes in Encore Gold ink on Sweet Tooth card stock. The next layer was embossed with Modern Moroccan Die-namics, then the sentiment, from Happy Thoughts, was stamped with Black Licorice ink on Sweet Tooth card stock cut with a Pierced Circle STAX Die-namics die. That was popped up on foam, then I added a First Place Award Ribbon Die-namics flag just to fill up some space cut from gold corrugated paper—love the little bit of dimension that provides. From Gumdrop Green card stock I cut a Leaf-Filled Flourish Die-namics and from Spearmint card stock I cut a Leafy Flourish Die-namics and adhered them. I then cut out several sizes of the Layered Rose Die-namics, shaped the petals and added it on the greenery. To finish it off, I adhered a large flat-backed pearl.

For the inside, I stamped a sentiment from Clearly Sentimental About Romance.

THEN, you know what to do--we'd love to have you come along and play with us. Just do your thing with the challenge and link it to Mr. Linky on the Crazy 4 Challenges blog. Please link directly to your project. And, if you upload to a public gallery, please use the key word C4C208.
