So, do you like what you've seen so far? Pretty awesome, right? Well, hold on because today My Favorite Things is sneaking peeks of two new sets. One is Bling 'Bers (I've been waiting for this for months, LOL!) and the other is Make the Date.
Bling 'Bers is a companion for Bling 'Bet, of course, and Make the Date is a calendar set--you can create all kinds of stuff with it: calendars (duh!), invitations, and lots of organizational lists come to mind. My little project today uses both of these new sets plus a couple of older ones.
I picked up this little wooden perpetual calendar set several months ago at either A C Moore or Hobby Lobby, figuring it would be good to have on hand. You never know, right?
This project was SO much fun to do!!! I may have mentioned before that I love to do decor items and I love how this one turned out!
So, it was pretty rough when I got it. It had a little wooden anchor glued on and I immediately ripped that off, LOL. Here's what it looked like right out of the packaging, sans anchor:
First, I painted it with two coats of off white craft paint, sanding in between coats. Then I added patterned paper to the base from October Afternoon's Report Card 8 x 8 pad. I adhered the paper with a glue stick, let it sit overnight, and then sanded the edges with a sanding block--both to smooth the edges and to distress the paper a bit.
I knew that the area I wanted to decorate was too small for the "scene" that I had in mind, so I trimmed a 4 x 4 chipboard coaster, covered it with the paper I'd chosen for the "sky", and sanded the edges.
I still didn't have good coverage on the months and numbers and the wood was still rougher than I wanted so I decided to just cover them with card stock.
Here you see all the pieces, covered and distressed both by sanding and with ink. Again, I adhered the card stock and paper with a glue stick, let dry overnight, then sanded and ink distressed the edges.
Here are the blocks with numbers and months. I stamped them all with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored in the dots on the numbers with Copic markers. The months were cut/embossed with a Spellbinders label die.
Here you see all the elements of my "scene" stamped, colored, and cut/punched out. Just behind the picket fence there's a strip of green cardstock that was punched out with a scalloped border punch to simulate grass. The sentiment is from Can Ya Dig It? (one of my all-time favorite WTG sets!!) and everything else that is stamped is from Spring Sprouts (I love this one, too!). The flowers were all stamped on colored card stock and the layers cut out. The rainbow and the butterfly were stamped on a Perfect Paper Panel (out of stock) and colored with Copic markers before being cut out. After I assembled my "scene", I attached it to the base with red line tape.
Another view of the finished product:
I love how cheerful and colorful this calendar is--a welcome sight in the dead of winter :)
Thanks so much for dropping in today! Don't forget to head on over to Kim's blog at about 11:00am EST today and see the line up of the DT members that are sneaking peeks of these two new sets. They're sure to WOW you! And remember the festivities tomorrow night, January 6: 8-10pm EST release party at the Member Company Forum on SCS followed by Hop and Shop at 10:00pm EST. See you there!
