MFT July Creative Challenge–Christmas In July

creativechallenge_2012jul10

Hi, everyone, and welcome to MFT’s July Creative Challenge. The MFT Design Team Creative Challenge is a monthly feature, where we are challenged to explore our creative side using a specific theme, product, or technique. This month, we were challenged to kick-start our holiday projects with Christmas in July.  Be sure to check out the MFT Blog for a list of all participating designers.

Some time back, I used a 2 pound box of Velveeta and was pretty impressed by the sturdiness of the box. So I put it in my alterables bin and forgot about it. When I got ready to do this project, I went to my bin and EUREKA! The Velveeta box was there and screamed “cookies” to me. It’s the perfect size and shape to hold cookies for a holiday gift :)

I couldn’t very well use the naked box, so I covered it with Christmas patterned paper and decorated it. Luckily I had some of this old Cosmo Cricket paper in 12” sheets because that’s what it took to cover the box. You could certainly use solid card stock and dress it up, as well.

Once I got it covered and a ribbon tied around, I made a tag for the top, using my
Die-namics Traditional Tags STAX as the base.

To fancy it up, I first used my Die-namics Clearly Sentimental Label and some Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX for some layers, then added a Die-namics Ornaments ornament and a couple of sentiments.

creativechallenge_2012jul10tag

The top one was made with another Die-namics Traditional Tags STAX and a sentiment from Bon Appétit stamp set. The holly leaves are from Die-namics Ornaments. The button is from Buttons Galore and More, and is tied onto the ribbon with twine.

The second sentiment was made with a Die-namics First Place Award Ribbon flag die cut and the sentiment is from Die-namics Tag You’re It and Stamp Set. It also has a little holly leaf from Die-namics Ornaments.

Here’s the box all loaded up with cookies. Yeah, they’re Chips Ahoy, LOL! No Christmas cookies here, yet. But they fit perfectly :)

I also made a card to go with my sweet gift. I’m using Inspired by Christmas for the sentiment. I stamped it on another Die-namics Clearly Sentimental Label die cut and embellished with more Die-namics Ornaments.

Here’s a close up of the sentiment—I love the fonts used on this!

I decided to add just a little touch of whimsy with this tiny tag from Die-namics Ornaments on which I stamped “25th” using the Typewriter Alphabet set.

And, finally, here’s the inside, with another sentiment from Inspired by Christmas. I believe, don’t you?

Today we’re showing you Let's Toast Die-namics and Stamp Set and I made a little birthday gift set for my project. The set includes a card, a wine bottle tag, and some DARLING little wine glass charms.

First, the tag. I cut the tag from Fossil card stock and added a Fishtail Banner STAX die cut using patterned paper and on which I stamped one of the sweet little sentiments: Make a Wish. Adorable!! Then I created a rosette using Die-namics 1/4” Rosette. For the center of the rosette, I layered Die-namics Circle STAX from both sets and a sentiment from this stamp set.

Next up, the card. I made my background with three paper patterns and my new Fishtail Banner STAX, with which I am already IN LOVE!! Then I added some twine and some bling, and another rosette, again using Die-namics 1/4” Rosette, with the same center treatment as the bottle tag.

On the inside of the card, I formed a little pocket with another sentiment and into which I slipped a Maya Road envelope.

On the envelope, I stamped another sentiment and adhered two wine glass die cuts.

And here’s what’s in the envelope: four of the sweetest little wine charms!!! I have one on a glass to show how they look.

Well Preserved - Stamp Simply #166

I can't believe what a timely challenge this is! I'd already planned to do a "gift from my kitchen" for some special friends this year and this challenge made me get it done and off my list. Thanks for that, Sharon! Here's what she says:

Nov. 19 - ssnotime166 - Well Preserved! -- Is anyone out there still canning, or freezing or drying your summer harvest?  Or is anyone preparing those previously preserved goodies for Thanksgiving or Christmas gifts?  Today is all about preserving our fruits of the harvest.  Take this food related theme wherever it brings you -- use food type stamps, papers or embellishments on a card, decorate a jar of canned goods, or even wrap and decorate a chocolate bar -- we're easy! Let's just see some lovely fruits, veggies or any type of edible in today's creations!!!

So, I was being so domestic-ally diva-ish this fall. I made Crock Pot Apple Butter (OMGosh, delish!) and canned some applesauce, so I thought a pint of each would make a sweet little giftie :) I found this perfect little jar rack and the only thing left to do was to decorate it up!

And, nothing would work any better than MFT's Harvest Who's That Girl (temporarily out of stock) image for the tag. I stamped her on a Perfect Paper Panel with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored her with Copic markers--her shirt is paper pieced. I love how the basket turned out--I drew in the slats and then colored them. Patterned paper is from Graphic 45's Domestic Goddess--most appropriate, don't you think? ;-) And, to show how "green" I am, I reused a manilla label for the base :)

Here are the jar tags. The label and date are computer generated and I'm using Polka Dot Greetings Die-namics Die and Stamp Set.

And for the top of the jars, I added sentiments from Harvest Who's That Girl.

So, now it's your turn. Come along and play and take us up on the challenge--we'd love to see what you come up with. If you do, be sure to leave the link to your project on Sharon's blog using Mr. Linky. Please use the keyword ssnotime166 if you upload to a public forum. Don't forget to check out Sharon's fabulous sample and those of the design team, including our Guest Designer for November, Claudia Rosa of Pretty Pressings.

My Favorite Things' May Hop and Shop!!

It's finally here!!! My Favorite Things' May Hop and Shop is NOW! So much to see this month, so let's get started! If you got here from Sherrie's blog you're right on track, if not, double back to Kim's blog 'cause that's the beginning, then work your way back here :)

I'm showing you Rainfall Flopsey tonight. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I say this with every Flopsey, but I swear, this is my favorite EVER! I mean, look at those precious little BOOTS!! I am in LOVE!!!

While coming up with an idea for this set, I started wondering what I would like to do on a rainy day (other than stamping, of course) and I thought I'd like to just hibernate with a good book, some chocolate, some tea, and a bubble bath. Sounds like a perfect day to me. So I decided to create a Rainy Day Gift Set with Rainfall Flopsey. He asked if he could invite a few of his Flopsey friends along to help him out--how could I say "no" to that sweet little face?

There are lots of pictures, so I'll keep the gabbing to a minimum ;-) If you have a question, just shoot me an email and I'll do my best to answer :)

Here's the gift set. There's a card, of course, a tin full of assorted tea bags, chocolates in a tin, bubble bath and lotion in a die cut bag, and a bookmark (when you doze off you don't want to loose your place ;-)).

Close up of the card. After I colored the image and cut it out (all images stamped on Perfect Paper Panels with Memento Tuxedo Black ink), I added Glossy Accents to the boots and umbrella. The clouds are felt, cut out with MFT's new Die-namics Clouds die. The wide ribbon is from the Perfect Plaid Ribbon Collection, and the narrow is from my stash, buttons are all from the Summer button collection, and the red card stock is Red Hot. Raindrops are from Rain Or Shine set.

Inside of the card. Another cloud (there are three sizes on one die) and a Jumbo Scallop border.

The tea tin using Tea With Flopsey and the Scalloped Scallop border die. Sentiment is from Hot Stuff.

Chocolate kisses in a tin using Chocolate Flopsey Bunny with the addition of Summer Collection Glittered Garnishes.

Bubble bath and lotion tote bag using Bubble Bunny Flopsey with Iridescent Stickles on the bubbles. Sentiment is from Time For the Bubbly.

And finally, a magnetic bookmark using What's the Story? I'm going to show you how I made the book mark using the new Scalloped Scallop Die-namics die and a magnet I found around the house :)

Please excuse my messy work area, LOL! I hadn't really planned on doing a tutorial but when I got started I thought maybe someone would like to see the process. My magnet was about 5" by 3". I covered the advertisement with card stock first thing.

Then I cut both long edges with the Scalloped Scallop die and cut the magnet in half. I ran it through my Cuttle bug with my normal sandwich, twice. I wasn't sure I got a good cut, but when I tugged on the excess it came right off. I'm tellin' you, these dies are fantastic!! Next I added a strip of patterned paper.

Then I put some 1/2" Scor-Tape on the other side...

...added my ribbon...

...and tied the two pieces of ribbon together with a button and Pearl cotton.

Finally, I added Flopsey and the sentiment and it was done! This book mark works great! One piece goes on either side of a page and it won't fall out of the book because it's magnetized! I'm loving it!

And that's it! Thanks so much for stopping by! Now, you *must* head on over to Wendy's blog (she's our AWESOME guest designer this month) to see what wonderful things she has in store for you. I can't wait--I'm going right now! OH!! Don't forget there's blog candy somewhere along the way. You might want to leave a comment on every DT member's blog to be sure you have a chance of winning. I'm just sayin'.

The Copics I used. Yeah, I do use a lot of 'em.
