MFT February Release Rewind

releaserewind1_2014feb13

Hi, everyone! It’s time for this month’s Release Rewind! I love this feature since it gives the designers a great opportunity to use some products we might not have gotten around to using during the release. This almost always happens for me so I’m really excited about this chance to be creative with the amazing new MFT products that are available right HERE, right NOW in the MFT Boutique. To get all the details, be sure to stop by the MFT Blog.

I have two cards for you today using several products I didn’t get around to using during Release Countdown. My first card is using Stripes Stencil and Sunny Day Doodles Borders and Accents along with Simply Fabulous Sayings and Cheetah Background, both of which I used a fair bit :)

My first card starts with a Sweet Tooth card stock base, then has a Kraft card stock layer on which I stenciled some modeling paste using Stripes Stencil. While my modeling paste was still wet, I sprinkled on some fine glitter and allowed it to dry. That’s something else I learned you could do in that Online Card Class on stenciling. Then I used some Cheetah Background paper from my stash—Black Licorice ink stamped on Razzle Berry card stock. I layered it on some Black Licorice card stock then added my sentiment layer. For this, I stamped a border from Sunny Day Doodles Borders and Accents on either edge with Black Licorice ink then colored in the loops with a Copic marker—it’s hard to see in the photo but looks pretty cool IRL. I then stamped the sentiment from Simply Fabulous Sayings between the borders with Razzle Berry ink, adhered it to the other layers and popped the whole thing up on foam. I finished it off with some clear gems.

Another sentiment from Simply Fabulous Sayings was stamped on the inside.

For my second card I used the Watercolor Backgrounds stamp set.

I got my best result with this set using watercolor paper and I’ll show you how I did it.

Here’s a few things I started with. Three colors of MFT ink: Nightshift Blue ink, Sour Apple ink, and Blu Raspberry ink.

Using a craft sheet, I smushed my ink pads to release some ink onto the craft sheet.

Next, I heat embossed a sentiment from Go Overboard onto my watercolor paper with Versamark and white embossing powder.

Then, using a DAMP brush—not wet, just damp, I picked up some ink onto the brush and applied it to my stamp kinda randomly.

I repeated that with the two other colors and then stamped on the watercolor paper on top of the embossing, trying to keep it centered. Then I slightly dampened the corner of a paper towel and wiped off the embossed sentiment—when I did that my colors blended so nicely—I love the result!

To complete my card I trimmed my watercolor paper, matted it with metallic gold card stock, and popped it up on foam on a Black Licorice card stock base. To finish it off, I cut an anchor from Let’s Get Nautical Die-namics from metallic gold card stock, put some hemp twine through the hole, and popped that up as well.

Here’s another look at the finished result:

Another sentiment from Go Overboard was stamped on the inside on Whip Cream card stock with Black Licorice ink.
