MFT Creative Construction With Blueprints Design Team Challenge–Wonky Panels

creativeconstrucblueprints1_2015mar10

Hi, everyone! Welcome to this month’s Creative Construction With Blueprints Design Team Challenge! We love Blueprints because they take the guesswork out of crafting beautiful cards in quick fashion when we’re short on time or inspiration. We also love them for their versatility and ability to be mixed and matched when we have the time and inspiration to create something truly unique. Our Creative Construction Challenge focuses on these attributes each month, challenging the team to both assemble a card based on one of the provided Blueprints sketches as well as design an original card combining elements from the featured Blueprints.

Wonky panels are trickier to execute than they might appear at first glance. This month’s challenge focuses on Blueprints 15 and Blueprints 18 that make creating die-cut panels with a little sass to them quick and easy

For my first card, I’m using a sketch from Blueprints 18 Die-namics. I started with a Black Licorice card stock base, then added a layer of Sweet Tooth card stock stamped with Sheet Music Background and Black Licorice dye ink. Next I cut my wonky panel from Ranger Watercolor Paper and did a water color wash using Summer Splash dye ink refill, Limelight dye ink refill, and Daffodil dye ink refill, popped up on foam mounting tape. Next up is Sweet Tooth card stock cut with Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics, also popped up on foam, and LJD Scribbles Die-namics, cut from gold mirror paper. I cut and stamped LJD Blissful Butterflies Die-namics and LJD Blissful Butterflies on Sweet Tooth card stock with Black Licorice dye ink and adhered it to the circle element. The sentiment was stamped on Sweet Tooth card stock and slipped under the circle. The button die was cut 5 times and adhered together for dimension, then tied with baker’s twine and adhered. I finished off with some black and gold glitter enamel dots.

Another sentiment from the set was stamped on the inside and overstamped with a butterfly with Summer Splash dye ink.

My next card uses elements from both of the featured Blueprints Die-namics sets.

This card started with a Grout Gray card stock base. Next I cut some Blue Breeze card stock with the large wonky panel from Blueprints 15 Die-namics and created my clouds using Cloudy Day Stencil and white embossing paste, then popped that panel up on foam mounting tape. I cut my sun, from Sun, Moon, & Stars Die-namics and Lemon Chiffon card stock, then sponged ink to create more color using Daffodil dye ink, Orange Fizz Dye ink, and Orange Zest dye ink. Before I popped it up on foam, I spritzed it well with MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist. I hope you can see the shimmer in this photo:

Next I added clouds, cut from Cloud Cover-Up Die-namics. I cut three flags with a die from Blueprints 18 Die-namics, one from Orange Zest card stock stamped with LJD Darling Dots and Sweet Tooth pigment ink, one from Sweet Tooth card stock stamped with Striped Backgrounds and Black Licorice ink, and one from Black Licorice card stock, stamped with a sentiment from Blue Skies Ahead and Sweet Tooth pigment ink and heat embossed with clear detail embossing powder. I popped them up on foam and finished off with some enamel dots and sequins,

Another sentiment from Blue Skies Ahead was stamped on the inside with Black Licorice dye ink.
