Joy Wreath–MFT October Tips & Tricks

tipsandtricks_2018oct11

Hi everyone, welcome to the MFT’s October Release Tips & Tricks feature! Today I’m going to show you how to create a dimensional wreath using the just released Filled with Joy Die-namics. I love it when I come up with a way to stretch my supplies, especially in different and unexpected ways.

MFT_TipsTricks_Blog

First, here’s what I started with to create my wreath: Hemp Cord and three shades of green card stock cut with the snowflake from Filled with Joy Die-namics. I created the base by curling up some hemp cord to simulate a “grapevine wreath”. I secured the ends with hot glue but you can use any quick setting glue you have.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11c

Then I started cutting the snowflake die cuts into pieces—each “arm” yields a “sprig” of greenery.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11d

I snipped them apart and then off of the center circle until I had a pile of “sprigs”.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11e

Next I started adhering the “sprigs” to the base with a drop of glue, overlapping to hide the glue and “propped” up for dimension using alternating shades of green for a more realistic look.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11f

Here’s a side view to see how much the “sprigs” are propped up.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11g

Here you see it about 3/4 finished.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11h

And here, finished. When I got to the beginning, I gently lifted the first sprigs up and adhered the last ones under them.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11i

I wanted to add some red berries and the only thing I had that would work scale-wise was some retired Prills. They really are perfect for this but if I had red seed beads they would be perfect, too. To finish I added a baker’s twine bow.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11j

Here’s the back side of the finished wreath so you know what it should look like.

tipsandtricks_2018oct11k

To create the card, I adhered some Itsy Bitsy Polka Dots patterned paper on a Sweet Tooth card stock base, then popped up another Sweet Tooth panel cut with Stitched Scallop Basic Edges 2 Die-namics. I cut the J and Y from Holly Jolly Glitter Card Stock and popped them up on foam, then adhered the wreath in the center.

And that’s it from me today! I hope my tips & tricks will encourage you to think out of the box when you look at your supplies.

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!

MFTCPC103_2018oct11

Hi, all, I'm back with the latest MFT Color Challenge! Are you ready? Here’s this week’s color combo: Wild Wisteria, Limelight, Blu Raspberry, and Gravel Gray. The MFT Design Team will be on hand to provide plenty of inspiration to get you started.

I really love this color combo and I wanted to use something from the just-released products from MFT so I looked at PI Holiday Greetings. Once I saw this sentiment, that is not specifically Christmas-oriented, I knew that’s what I would use. I started with the background by sponging some sky with Blu Raspberry dye ink. Then to create the sense that little PI was downtown shopping, I made the corner of a building with English Brick Wall Stencil and some molding paste. After it dried I sponged some Cement Gray dye ink on it and popped it up on foam. I added Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics and a strip of Gravel Gray card stock for the sidewalk. To complete the background I stamped and colored some trees from Cool Christmas, then fussy cut them out to streamline the look.

MFTCPC103_2018oct11b

Then I stamped the image on No Line Coloring card stock with Extreme Black hybrid ink, cut it out with the coordinating Die-namics, and colored with Copic markers before popping it up with foam. The sentiment was heat embossed on Black Licorice card stock cut with Hearts in a Row – Vertical and also popped up on foam for the finish. I was quite please with how this turned out!

And there you have it! Remember, you can get all the details by visiting the
MFT Challenge Blog. You have the chance to win a $50 in MFT voucher. One winner is chosen at random each week!

Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!

You’re Always on My Nice List–MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge #406

MFTWSC406_2018oct10

Hi, everyone, I’m back with this week’s MFT Wednesday Sketch Challenge! Are you ready? Here’s this week’s sketch. All of the details about the sketch challenge are available on the MFT Challenge & Inspiration blog as well as in the weekly newsletter. The MFT Design Team will be on hand to provide plenty of inspiration to get you started.

MFT_WSC_406

OK, peeps, I gotta admit this one really stumped me. I decided to score Sweet Tooth card stock to make the six sections and go from there. I checked out some sentiments and came up with this. I matted the scored panel with Silver Ritz Glitter Card Stock and popped it up on foam.

MFTWSC406_2018oct10b

Then I cut Gift Bags Die-namics from Candy Land Paper Pack and added Silver Ritz card stock handles, also popping them up on foam. I heat embossed the sentiment from Santa & Friends Stamp Set on Heavyweight Vellum and adhered it with clear foam and finished off with an assortment of Sprinkles.

And there you have it! Remember, you can get all the details by visiting the
MFT Challenge Blog. You have the chance to win a $50 in MFT voucher. One winner is chosen at random each week!

Grateful for You–Color Throwdown Challenge #514

CTD514_2018oct10

Hello, it’s time for a brand new Color Throwdown Challenge and we’re celebrating Fall today with these gorgeous colors chosen by Amy Rohl!

swatch514

These colors screamed Fall leaves to me so I just ran with it. I started by applying molding paste on Sweet Tooth card stock through English Brick Wall Stencil and after it dried I sponged it with Tangy Orange dye ink. Then I figured out where I needed the little sentiment from Grateful for You and stamped it with Milk Chocolate dye ink and popped it up on foam on a Sweet Tooth card stock base.

CTD514_2018oct10b

Then I cut a bunch of Falling Leaves Die-namics from Orange Zest, Pineapple, and Milk Chocolate card stocks, sponged the edges with Kraft dye ink, and arranged and adhered them like I wanted. Then I cut Grateful for You Die-namics from Gold Sparkle card stock, layered it with two copies cut from Sweet Tooth card stock, and adhered it to the card front. To finish, I added some Nuvo Crystal Drops – Morning Dew to the leaves—I love how clear it is!

And that’s it from me! Remember, you do not have to have the exact colors to play the Color Throwdown challenge. If you don't, just use the closest you have. So, c'mon over to the
Color Throwdown blog and play along with us this week. Please use the link service to post your card and please link directly to your card so we can find it easily. And please include a link in your post to the Color Throwdown. I love the new Delightful Deer Die-namics so much! I decided to put them in a snowy woodland scene that would really show them off. To begin, I sponged the background on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper with Berrylicious and Coral Crush dye inks and built upon it. From Sweet Tooth card stock I cut Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics and Birch Trees Die-namics, added some Gravel Gray card stock behind them. I popped some up on foam the rest were adhered directly.

newproductrelease_2018oct9b

I cut the deer and the just as delightful Cardinal from card stock (see colors below), assembled them, and popped them up in the scene. The sentiment, from Trio of Trees Stamp Set, was heat embossed on Milk Chocolate card stock cut with Slanted Sentiment Strips Die-namics and also popped up on foam.

And that’s it! I hope I’ve given you some ideas for using YOUR new October goodies in some fun ways. Thanks so much for stopping by…and happy shopping!! Don’t forget that

I started by sponging my night sky using After Midnight dye ink on Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper, then added some stars by splattering some Copic Opaque White slightly diluted with water. Then I added Mountain Hight Die-namics from Cement Gray card stock on which I dry brushed more Copic Opaque White for “snow”. I added Stitched Snow Drifts Die-namics (the unstitched edge) and trees from Mountain High Die-namics colored with Copic markers and popped up on foam.

countdownday1_2018oct8b

Next I cut JOY from Filled with Joy Die-namics from Silver Glitz Glitter card stock (this stuff is gorgeous--it has tiny specks of color built in that catch the light!) and popped it up on foam. I love this old station wagon so much!!! And road trip, amirite??? For my card I started by sponging the sky with Berrylicious dye ink on Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper (seriously, peeps, if you’re not using this for sponging you’re doing it wrong! It’s THAT good!) and leaving the bottom white for snow. I stamped the sentiment, added some Mountain High Die-namics, cut from Cement Gray card stock and Open Road Die-namics cut from Black Licorice card stock with Sweet Tooth for the lines. Puffy Clouds Die-namics finished the sky.

countdownday2_2018oct7b

The images were stamped with Extreme Black hybrid ink, cut out with the coordinating Die-namics, colored with Copic markers, and added to the scene. Dimension was achieved with foam tape.
