MFT October Creative Challenge–Cork Ideas Worth Pinning

creativechallenge1_2014oct22

Hi, everyone! It’s time for this month’s MFT Design Team Creative Challenge. This month we’re challenged to create cards and projects that you’ll want to add to your Pinterest boards using the cork sheets MFT offers.

I have a couple of cards for you, both of them Christmas cards because that time is quickly approaching! For my first one, I used a cork sheets to create iced gingerbread “cookies” for the front of my card. I started with a Wild Cherry card stock base, then on a piece of Sweet Tooth card stock I applied some embossing paste using the Grid Stencil. I trimmed that down, added a Black Licorice mat and popped it up on the base. Then, from cork sheets I die cut the snowflakes from LJD Snowflake Splendor Die-namics. Next, using Sweet Tooth pigment ink, I stamped the snowflakes from LJD Snowflake Splendor and heat embossed with white embossing powder. I had never heat embossed on cork sheets before but I gave it a try and it did great! It doesn’t take as long as it does on paper and I made sure to have my heat tool good and hot before I started melting the powder so I could get it done quickly. I think they turned out looking so much like the real thing, how about you?

Next, I stamped “Christmas” from Merry Messages with Black Licorice dye ink and, on a strip of Black Licorice card stock, stamped part of a sentiment from LLD Delicious Birthday and heat embossed it like the “cookies”. To finish it off I added a few glittery enamel dots.

Another sentiment from Merry Messages was stamped on the inside with Wild Cherry dye ink.

My second card uses cork sheets for the die cut sentiment.

I started with a Kraft card stock base, then on a piece of Berrylicious card stock, I stamped clusters of the three little snowflakes from LLD Holiday Subway Art over and over with Versamark and heat embossed with Silver Pearl embossing powder. I grounded it with some Black Licorice card stock and before popping it up on foam, tied around some hemp cord.

I cut a “happy” from cork sheets with Happy Die-namics and adhered it to the card from. The sentiment was finished by stamping another image from LLD Holiday Subway Art on Primitive White card stock with Black Licorice dye ink and popping it up on foam. The card was finished off by tying on a Black Licorice button with hemp cord.

Another sentiment from LLD Holiday Subway Art was stamped on the inside on Primitive White card stock.

And that’s it! Thanks so much for stopping by—see you soon!
