Stitched With Love–Birthday Edition

Birthdays are all about making the birthday boy or girl feel special — it’s all about them! What better way to show them how much you care than by going the extra mile with their gift? Even if you aren’t a stitching pro, our Cross-Stitch Tag Die-namics make it easy to elevate your cards and tags to perfect little gifts in and of themselves. This month, we’re sharing a whole new batch of cross-stitch designs created specifically for the Cross-Stitch Tag Die-namics. They’re birthday themed but could be incorporated into other occasions as well. We’ve challenged our team to inspire your next cross-stitch creation…let’s see what they’ve come up with!




Hello and welcome to the Birthday Edition of MFT’s Stitched With Love. I thought this darling birthday cake would be the perfect centerpiece for a card. First I did the stitching using DMC floss (Green – 3819; Yellow – 973; Aqua – 3766; and Pink – 3806) on Sweet Tooth card stock cut with Cross-Stitch Tag Die-namics. After it was done, I popped it up on foam on a card base on which I stamped Musical Notes Background.



Next I framed the cross-stitch piece with Stitched Rounded Rectangle Frames Die-namics and added the sentiment element, first Stitched Fishtail Sentiment Strips cut from Party Patterns Patterned Paper and then the heat-embossed-on-vellum sentiment from PI Happy Birthday to You. I finished off by adding some Musical Notes Die-namics, cut from Black Licorice card stock, to add to the musical theme.

Stitched with Love - Saint Patrick's Day

You don’t need to be Irish to wear a bit o’ the green and take part in the fun tradition of Saint Patrick’s Day. If you have a sneaky leprechaun that likes to surprise people with little treats for this holiday, a hand-crafted card or tag provides a great finishing touch. We’re having a lot of fun conceiving new pattern ideas to use with our Cross-Stitch Tag Die-namics and the prospect of rainbows and four-leaf clovers was too good to pass up! Our team, as always, is on-board as well and they have plenty of inspiration to share with our newest cross-stitch pattern collection…good luck resisting this colorful quartet of designs!

What fun designs these cross-stitch patterns are! I made tags but they would work so well as the focal point of a card, too. I used DMC embroidery floss because I have a TON of it from my cross-stitchin’ days. For the shamrock I used #911

And for the top hat I used #909, #3322, and #310

   

They were both stitched on Smooth White Card Stock, the tops were covered with Fresh Squeeze Chevron Paper Pack, the grommet was cut from Black Licorice card stock, and finished off with some tiny gingham check ribbon and solid baker’s twine. The back was covered (if you’re like me the back side of your cross-stitch is pretty messy ;-)) with Sweet Tooth card stock.

Stitched With Love

You already know the value of crafting handmade gifts from the heart — especially for sharing the love on Valentine’s Day. Maybe you’ve even integrated some of your other crafty hobbies into your paper crafting. Our Cross-Stitch Tag Die-namics makes it so easy to marry cross stitch with paper crafting and with our Cross-Stitch Tag Heart Patterns, we’ve taken the guesswork out of pattern planning as well! The design team was challenged to put this new pattern collection to use to create projects Stitched with Love.




What a fun challenge! I used to be a cross-stitching FOOL! Before I found paper-crafting, LOL! I made 1000s of stitches over the years and haven’t stitched in a long time so it was nice to get back to it if even in a small way. I used a couple of the Cross-Stitch Heart Patterns that you can download as they are and then designed another one of my own using part of one.

Here’s my planning process: I cut the center of Cross-Stitched Tag from printer paper and marked off my stitches with markers so I’d have something to go by. You can see I made a few boo-boos but better to get the kinks out this way than on the finished product ;-)




They were very easy to just follow once I got the stitches placed properly. This first tag uses one of the provided patterns exactly but I had to embellish, of course ;-) I added a heart arrow to the top and a sentiment from From the Heart Stamp Set to the bottom.




For this one I wanted to do a rainbow heart, so I used the singer larger heart and sketched out how many rows of each color to use.




This one uses one of the four small hearts and I added the letters to spell LOVE and finished off with some Sparkling Clear sequins.




I added Black & White Stripes patterned paper to the top of each, along with a Black Licorice grommet, ribbon, and baker’s twine to finish off.
