Hi, everyone! It’s time for this month’s Release Rewind! I love this feature since it gives the designers a great opportunity to use some products we might not have gotten around to using during the release. This almost always happens for me so I’m really excited about this chance to be creative with the amazing new MFT products that are available right HERE, right NOW in the MFT Boutique. To get all the details, be sure to stop by the MFT Blog.
For my first project, I went full on mixed media. I’d been dabbling a bit, getting my nerve up, but I got down and dirty with this. If you’ve done any mixed media you know that’s unavoidable, LOL! It’s a messy process but I had SO much fun with a ton of new MFT products and I’m definitely looking forward to doing some more of this.
I started with a 5” x 7” canvas board and, using some of the techniques that Mona Pendleton showed us at the MFT Retreat in May, started applying strips of Tim Holtz tissue paper with Mod Podge. After that was done, I added some color with Gelatos for my scene base—I LOVE the transparent color you get with these. Next, I used the new MPD Stone Wall Stencil and built up some texture with molding paste, then, when it was dry, sprayed that with the new MIX-ables Steel Shimmer Mist. To keep from over spraying the mist. I laid the stencil back on the canvas and masked off the rest with sheets of paper. Worked like a charm :) Next I cut out some Die-namics Flat-Bottom Clouds and used the negative as a stencil to brush on some gesso, and outlined the clouds with a waterproof pen when they were dry.
Then I stamped the checkerboard design from MPD Distressed Background Blocks with waterproof ink several times. Next, I mixed just a tiny bit of Black Licorice ink with fiber paste and stenciled on a MPD Delicate Doily Stencil off the right side. To finish off the background, I sprayed some MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist through the new MPD Graduated Diamonds Stencil. Here’s a close up of that so you can see the incredible shimmer this mist produces.
Then it was a matter of creating my scene. First I added a sun using Die-namics Sunshine cut from Lemon Drop card stock with a Lemon Drop button center. To cover the holes in the button, I simply adhered a matching enamel dot. I created several roses, stems, and leaves with Sweet Tooth card stock using the new MPD Blooming Roses and coordinating Die-namics MPD Rose Bouquet with Red Hot ink, Orange Fizz ink, Lemon Drop ink, and Jellybean Green ink. I added a sweet butterfly from LJD Blissful Butterflies, stamped with Berrylicious ink, more MPD Distressed Background Blocks, and finally sprayed with MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist. To finish it off, I stamped the sentiment with waterproof ink on Sweet Tooth card stock cut with a Die-namics Layered Label using the new LLD Max Alphabet and doodled around the edge. To tone it down a bit, I swiped an almost dry gesso brush across the letters and then sealed it with Mod Podge before popping it up on foam. As a final touch. I swiped my black waterproof ink pad along all of the canvas edges to sort of “frame” it. I have to say I love it and it now occupies a place of honor on my guest room dresser :) I hope that my project will inspire you to get messy with an MFT mixed media products, too.

My second project is a card using the new ADORABLE PI – Gone Fishin’. I used a Sweet Tooth card stock base with a Berrylicious card stock layer. I stamped her on my fave Neenah Classic Crest Cover, Solar White Smooth, 110lb paper with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored her with Copic markers, paper piecing her clothes. I popped the image panel up on foam and added the sentiment, stamped on a Die-namics First Place Award Ribbon flag cut from Sweet Tooth card stock and anchored with a Sno Cone Button.
Here’s the inside with another sentiment from the set:
And that’s it! Be sure to check out what the other designers have for you over at the MFT blog.
