Little Pumpkin and Pumpkin Box Tutorial

Today I have another sweet little PI that MFT just released, called Little Pumpkin. It just flew off the shelf and was sold out shortly after release, but more are on the way and should be back in the MFT Boutique soon, so be sure to check back.I'm also going to show you a tutorial using a box I made with a template I designed for MFT and that can be found right here.

Here's the set. Isn't that the sweetest little PI? ACK!! Adorable!!!
I paper pieced her dress and the pumpkin, and added some shading to the pumpkin with Copic markers, then colored the rest with Copics. The flower was made with the Perfect Petal Trio Die-namics dies and attached with a Basic Grey Indian Summer brad. The scalloped border on the focal element was done with the Small Scalloped Border Die-namics die. And there you see the pumpkin box. Mine is pretty bare bones, but I wanted to show you the basic box--you're only limited by your imagination from there on out. See the tendrils? I used some of those green plastic-covered  Christmas ornament hooks, wrapped around an orange wood stick, then I just stuck the ends under the stem piece.
 **********

Here you see the top off of the box, filled with Hershey's Kisses. I have the box about half full of filler and still got at least 10 Kisses in it.

OK, on to the pumpkin box tutorial. I have lots of pictures that I hope will be helpful.

First off, either cut your pieces out with your electronic cutter (all major cutter files are included in the download) or using the PDF file, print the pieces and cut them out. I'm using the Print and Cut for my box simply because I was testing that file when I made my box.

**********

Score and fold on the score lines. You'll need the Print and Cut file for reference if you're using an electronic cutter.
**********

Apply a strong adhesive as indicated--I used Scor-Tape for mine. See how I used a strip all the way across those tabs? It was easier to do that and then cut out in between than to cut each of those individually and apply to the tabs. Jody tells me you don't even have to cut out in between--the Scor-Tape (or Red Line if that's what you're using) is so thin it won't make any difference and it will save time.

**********

Adhere the ends and fold the cuffs to the inside. These cuffs add strength to the edges. Here I have the bottom and the lid done up to this point.

**********

Apply the box to the flat bottom piece. Get it as close as possible, but don't fret if you have to trim off some little slivers to make everything nice and flush.

**********

Here, the bottom liner has been added. This is not totally necessary, but it covers up the tabs and just makes it look neater inside. If you're using the Print and Cut you can't do anything about the lines on the sides, but the bottom looks better :)

**********

Here's a little tip for helping to keep the sides straight while adhering the bottom and top. Just put the lid on and fold in the tabs. The bottom will help stabilize the lid and vice versa,

**********

Another tip for stabilizing while adhering the top and bottoms: slip the liner piece inside so the sides won't buckle while you're adding the top or bottom.

**********

In an attempt to cut down on pictures, you'll see the top has been adhered to the lid, and the stem slit has been cut. You'll also see where to apply adhesive to the stem pieces.

**********

A tip for getting the scalloped stem piece slit and the lid top slit lined up: slip a piece of card stock into the lid top slit and slip the scalloped stem piece down over it. Adhere.

**********

What it should look like on the inside.

**********

And on the outside.

**********

Lid liner in place.

**********

And here's the set again. Cute, huh?!

As I said, I'm showing you bare bones. Here are some of the Design Teams projects--you can see how creative they were.
