Hello there and welcome to another post as Guest Designer for the Crazy 4 Challenges Challenge! Today our hostess Joanne is challenging us to a true one-layer card:
November 15 is Use Less Stuff Day. In its honor I would like you to make a true one layer CAS card. The theme is up to you…..Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthday…..any theme.
I’m good with this, LOL!! I actually make one-layer cards occasionally so it’s really not a challenge for me. I know some folks really don’t like them but it’s good to stretch yourself every now and then, right?
I decided to create a serene and snowy scene with a simple sentiment for a Christmas card that would not be too hard to mass produce and it’s certainly mail friendly. When I do one layer cards I work on a separate panel of card stock and then adhere it to a card base—I find working directly on the card base leaves you with a flimsy card—this gives it more “body” and if you’re coloring you don’t have to worry about bleed-through.
I started by sponging my background using Drifts & Hills Stencil and Black Soot, Blueprint Sketch, Peacock Feathers, Salty Ocean Distress Inks on Strathmore Bristol Smooth Paper. Since I started using Distress inks and this paper I am thrilled with my sponging outcomes. That paper blends like buttah, y’all!!
Then I stamped Modern Trees with Versamark and heat embossed with white detail embossing powder and then splattered the snow with slightly watered down Copic Opaque White. I added some shading to the tree trunks with a couple of Copic markers and then heat embossed the sentiment from Hand-Lettered Christmas with silver detail embossing powder, adhered the panel to the base and called it done!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll be back later today with another MFT November Release Countdown card so hope you’ll stop by again. And I hope to see you playing along at the Crazy 4 Challenges blog this week. Please use the link service to post your card and please link directly to your card so we can find it easily. Be sure to check out what the other team members have come up with this week, too!

The colors are so beautiful on this card it made me have to go look. I had fallen off of looking at blogs but this one through me right in .ReplyDelete
I tried to look at some of your fellow crafter's cards but several of them don't have the post up. I'd hate for them to go to all the work and nobody get to see it. It's the first two the fourth one and the last one on the list.
Absolutely GORGEOUS card, Barbara! Your sky background is so striking and I love how you added the slight shadow for the trees! This would be a great card for mass production, too :)ReplyDelete
