MFT Design Team Challenge–Ingenious Inking: Magical MIX-ables

inginkmagmix1_2015feb24

Welcome to a new Design Team challenge at My Favorite Things! Ingenious Inking will explored the many ways MFT inks can be used in your creations. As we begin our Ingenious Inking journey, we thought it would be fun to show how our line of MIX-ables can be used to alter our Premium Dye Inks, Pigment Inks, and Hybrid Inks to create new looks and applications. MIX-ables make it easy to add sparkle, shine, and glitz to your projects – subtle or boldit truly is a bit of crafting magic.

I have two cards for you today, both making use of sprays that I’ve made using MFT Premium Dye Inks and MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer mist in Mini Misters. I love this stuff!

Let me start by showing you how I mixed it up.

Using a pipette, I put 2 cc/ml of MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist in my Mini Mister, then add 4 cc/ml of clear water. To finish, I add drops of MFT dye ink refill. The number of drops varies for me—lighter colors require more drops, darker colors require fewer. Simply a matter of taste, there. Put the top back on, shake well, and you’re in business!

My first card starts with a Sweet Tooth card stock base, then I created my shimmer background panel. On more Sweet Tooth card stock, I sprayed three colors of my mixture: Berrylicious, Sour Apple, and Orange Fizz—one of my all-time favorite color combos. I simply started spraying lightly using all three colors and reapplied until I got the coverage I wanted. You can see the shimmer really well here:

When I had it like I wanted, I adhered it to another Sweet Tooth card stock panel, cut with Inside & Out Diagonal Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics and popped them both up on foam mounting tape. The sentiment is from LLD Document It – Right On Target was stamped on Black Licorice card stock with Sweet Tooth pigment ink and heat embossed with clear detail embossing powder. I finished off with a couple of feathers, cut from LLD Accent It – Feathers and Arrows Die-namics with gold mirror paper and Translucent Vellum. The vellum feather was stamped with Fine Chevron Background and Delicata Gold pigment ink, then both tied together with gold cord and popped up on foam.

Another sentiment from LLD Document It – Right on Target was stamped on the inside with Black Licorice dye ink.

My second card uses the same misters to create a totally different look.

This card started with a Black Licorice card stock base. On a piece of Sweet Tooth card stock, I splattered the ink mixtures all over.

To do this, you make sure the tube of the Mini Mister is full by spraying (I usually just spray off into a trash can), remove the pump, and tap, tap, tap to release droplets of the mixture.

Here are both of the card fronts side-by-side, showing the completely different looks you can get with the same product, stretching your ink and MIX-ables even more:

To complete my second card, and using Blueprints 21 Die-namics, I cut a panel out, then with Blueprints 18 Die-namics I cut out a circle. I matted it with Berrylicious card stock and another Sweet Tooth card stock panel cut with Inside & Out Diagonal Stitched Rectangle STAX Die-namics, then popped it all up on foam. Next I added a strip of Sweet Tooth card stock stamped with Black Licorice dye ink and Striped Backgrounds, and popped up Happy Hellos Die-namics cut from gold glitter card stock. I cut and stamped the chick from BB Somebunny Stamp Set and BB Somebunny Die-namics with Black Licorice hybrid ink, colored with Copic markers, and then brushed on some MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist for lots of shimmer. I finished off with some enamel dots. Hopefully you can see the shimmer of it all in this view:

On the inside, I stamped a sentiment from Get Well Wishes with Black Licorice dye ink.

And that’s it! I hope I’ve inspired you to get some ink refills and MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist of your own and start adding shimmer and shine to your projects! Thanks for stopping by! See you soon!
