Flourishes October Sneak Peek, Day One

Hi, all! Today is the first day of sneak peeks for Flourishes' October release. Today the Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge team is heading up the parade and the challenge is to create an ornament or use one on your card or creation. Head on over to the Flourishes blog to get all the details. How's this for a little incentive: the winner of this challenge wins the entire October release! That's FOUR sets!!!

And here's my card using Holiday Sparkle. This set is SO right up my alley! I am just thrilled with it!

I knew I wanted to go kinda CAS to really showcase this gorgeous image. So, first of all, I stamped it on Classic White card stock with Versamark and heat embossed with silver fine detail embossing powder. Then I made the snow cap with Liquid Applique. the next thing I did was cover everything below the snow cap with Crystal Effects. When that was pretty dry, I quickly waved my heat tool over it to warm it up a little, sprinkled on some iridescent embossing powder and knocked off all I could. I let that set and then cut it out. I couldn't quite catch the gorgeous shimmer with my camera but it really shows up in real life. After I finished the ornament, I stamped the evergreen branch with green ink and added some brown stem with Copic markers. To finish up, I stamped the sentiment nestled in the branches, stamped the ornament hook, and popped the ornament up on foam.

FTTC100 - Let's Go To the Hop!

That's right! The Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge is turning 100! And to celebrate, we're having a blog hop challenge. In case you didn't see it, the challenge was posted as usual on Tuesday, but the DT is adding their cards and joining in the hop today! There are prizes to be won so be sure and check out the details here on the Flourishes blog. You have until midnight tonight, Friday, January 14th to enter your card in the hop. So let's get stampin'!

And here's my card. The challenge is All About Favorites! Use your choice of one or all of your favorite stamps, papers, colors, technique, and embellishments! Just list in your write up the favorites you chose to use in your card or project.

Well, there's no way I could add *all* my favorites but I tried to pack as many on this card as possible :) Let's see, some of my favorite things for card making are twill and twine, buttons and bows, stitching and sponging, flowers and flat backed pearls, coloring and sentiments, masking and matting. And all of these are on this card.

I masked the images from the From the Garden stamp set on Flourishes Classic White paper and colored them with Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils. Then I cut it out with a Petite Oval Nestabilities die, sponged the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink (temporarily out of stock), and matted it. The sentiment was stamped on more Classic White, punched out and backed with another punch-out from patterned paper. The patterned paper I'm using is my new fave: Curio by Basic Grey. Base card is Flourishes Classic Ivory card stock. I finished it off with some flat back pearls and the popped up sentiment, also from the set.

Flowers, your way - FTTC #99

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC99)! I'm your challenge host today and I'm challenging you to use flowers! In the mist of all the cold temps and snowy conditions in many parts of the world, we are going to brighten and warm things up a bit with some flowers! Just add any kind any style of flowers to your card or projects this week! We would love to see what you create!

I simply adore the new Webster's Pages paper called Hollywood Vogue, and that's where I got my inspiration for the colors for this card. So soft and vintage.

My layout is this week's SFYTT--even thought I'm not a fan of square cards, I needed the space to do what I wanted with this set. I stamped the tulip from the Thank You set (currently out of stock) on Classic Ivory card stock and colored with Copic markers, then cut it out. The sentiment was stamped on more Classic Ivory and cut out with deckle edged scissors--man, it's been a while since I used them but they gave me just the look I wanted. And I decided to tilt that element a bit. All edges are sponged with Antique Linen Distress Ink. I added a little lace to the bottom element and decided to use some twine instead of ribbon.

A Year In Flowers, Cyclamen - FTTC #95

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC95)! It's the last Tuesday of the month so we have us a challenge host! Mona Pendleton is our challenge host this month! Thanks so much Mona! Mona is challenging us to doilies! You can use actual doilies or create your own with punches or die cuts. The object is to have a doily look! We look forward to seeing what you create!

Mmmm, I love doilies, so this was a fun challenge for me! And I decided if I was going to get the November flower from A Year In Flowers done I'd better do it soon since November is almost over! I stamped the Cyclamen image from Set #3 on Classic White card stock and colored it with Copic markers, then I cut it out with a Classic Circle Nestabilities die and sponged the edges with Antique Linen Distress ink. The patterned paper I'm using is from Basic Grey's new Curio 6 x 6 pad. My doily is one I picked up a Michaels in the cake decorating section. It's really a stark white, so I sponged it pretty heavily with the distress ink, too, to make it blend with the gorgeous paper. A little matching twill ribbon and some Dew Drops and it was done! I left off a sentiment so this could be used for any number of occasions.

Strut Your Stuff - FTTC #91

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC91)! This week Betty Wright is hosting. Betty is challenging us to find inspiration with Cafe Baudelaire prints (http://www.etsy.com/shop/CafeBaudelaire?page=20). Visit the site and choose a picture that inspires you. The images are French shabby chic, but that style card or project is not required. We would love to see your take with your card making style.

OMGosh! Such gorgeous things there!! I spent way too much time looking but I kept coming back to this print:

And this is my card, inspired by the print:

I'm using the peacock and sentiment from Strut Your Stuff. I stamped the peacock on Classic White card stock, colored it with Copic markers, and cut it out and popped it up. All patterned paper is from DCWV Mariposa mat stack and I'm using Taken With Teal card stock. I tea died some seam binding, made a bow, and added some Prima flowers to echo the roses on the print.

Anything Goes But Buttons and Bows - FTTC #90

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC90)! It is the last Tuesday of the month so we have a guest challenge host. This month's guest is Linda Coughlin. Linda is challenging us to Anything Goes But Buttons and Bows There are so many wonderful embellishments to use for accents on our paper crafts, but all too often we fall back on our old favorites. This week, let's stretch ourselves and see how creative we can be in embellishing our cards. We want to see what you can do without using buttons or bows.

As you can imagine, this was HARD for me, LOL! What? No buttons and bows???? ACK!!! But, I soldiered on and this is what I came up with. Pretty simple, really. I stamped the cardinal image from Christmas Classics on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then I cut it out/embossed it with a Classic Circle Nestabilities die, matting it with Riding Hood Red card stock. I embossed some white card stock about 2/3 of the way down with an embossing folder and stamped the sentiment in black, popped up the image and tied around some red and white baker's twine in a KNOT, not a bow :) All of that was matted with Kraft and then popped up on foam tape on the white base card.

Focus on Sentiments - FTTC #89

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC89)! Maki Jones is the challenge host this week. Maki is challenging us to focus on the sentiment. Create a card or project with the sentiment as the main focus. We would love to see what you create.

I'm all over this one. LOVE sentiments as the focal image and I couldn't wait to use this old favorite: Rejoice. I really LOVE this image. I stamped it on Brilliant Blue with Encore Gold Metallic ink and heat embossed with gold fine detail embossing powder. Then I just layered it up with some gold metallic card stock. So simple, but this image doesn't need a lot to make it shine. The only other thing I did was to tie that gorgeous ribbon around in a bow and add some flat backed gold beads to the holly berries, just to add a little dimension.

Rejoice and Alleluia - FTTC #88

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC88)! Silke Ledlow is our challenge host this week. Silke is challenging us to ink and edge distressing. Ink and distress the edges of your cards to add dimension and texture. We would love to see what you create!

OK, I might have gotten carried away, LOL! Silke said to distress and I distressed! Maybe I was de-stressing, LOL! But I gotta tell ya, I really do like this card! First of all, I stamped the sheet music stamp from Christmas Music on a piece of patterned paper from Memory Box's Mistletoe collection with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink. Then I stamped the angel from the retired Rejoice set--one of my very favorite Flourishes Christmas sets with Fired Brick Distress Ink. Happily, one of the images from the set is returning--the large single word Rejoice and it's available NOW!! There is a chance this angel will be making a comeback, too...maybe if enough folks want it, it will. I'm just sayin'... So then I used more patterned paper and distressed the dickens out of it--with a distressing tool and Antique Linen Distress Ink. Some machine stitching, some twill and twine, and a couple of buttons to accent the sentiment, also from the original set, complete the card. Yep, I really like this one.

ETA: Good news!! This angel, plus some more images and sentiments from the original set, will be making a comeback, too! I'm told it will be available SOON, so keep an eye on the blog for the announcement! Woohoo! Doin' the happy dance, here!

Harvest Time - FTTC #86

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC86)! It is the end of the month so we have a challenge host! This month's host is Debbie Marcinkiewicz! Debbie is challenging us create a card, project or gift set with a fall/harvest theme using green, brown, orange/russet, and cream! We would love to see what you create!

OK, first off, I spaced on the color combo part--but I'm SO into the harvest part ;-) Other than pumpkins, and Indian corn, and gorgeous leaves, nothing much says fall to me like chrysanthemums. So, I'm using Flourishes A Year In Flowers set 3 for my project. I had this gorgeous Heidi Grace paper in my stash and when I saw it I guess it blew any other colors out of my brain, LOL!

The card design is really pretty simple--I tried to keep the patterned paper to a minimum so the image would be the focal point and still be enough to show how it tied in. I stamped the image on Classic Ivory card stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and coloring it with Copic markers. Then I cut it out and popped it up on Pop Dots. The only other thing it needed was some twill and some buttons. The sentiment was stamped on a Spellbinders Tag Trio die and tied on with the button. Oh, and of course I did some sponging with Ranger Antique Linen Distress Ink and some stitching. I have to make myself NOT use both of those on *every* card, LOL.

Celebrate Fall - FTTC #85

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC85)! This week Dee Jackson is the challenge host. Dee is challenging us to create Celebration cards! Celebrate anyway you like! You can choose Baby, Birthday, Friendship, Holiday, or come up with your own reason to celebrate! We would love to see what you create!

Since September 23 is the official first day of Fall in the Northern hemisphere, I can think of nothing better to celebrate today!! It's still pretty warm during the day here in South Central Virginia, but the nights are getting cooler and there's just that fall feel in the air. I spent last weekend putting out my Fall decorations--just looking at them makes me happy :)

For my card I'm using the Falling Leaves set. I stamped a selection of the leaf images on Kraft paper with Versamark and heat embossed with Copper Detail embossing powder. Then I popped it up on foam tape on a base card of Kraft with a layer of Chocolate Chip. The sentiment is also from the set and was stamped on Classic Ivory Card Stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, cut/embossed with a Deckle Edge Oval Nestabilities die. Before popping it up on Pop Dots I sponged a little Antique Linen Distress ink around the edges. I wanted to keep this CAS to show off those gorgeous leaves, so I kept the embellishments low key--ribbon and a twine tied button. I did add the double acorn image, which was colored with Copic markers and cut out, to the sentiment piece.

In the Spotlight - FTTC #84

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC84)! This week I'm your host and I'm challenging everyone to the spotlight technique. Here is a link to a spotlighting tutorial from SCS. This is a fun technique that often gets overlooked. Give it a try! We would love to see what you create!

For my card, I chose to use Sunflowers. It's the end of summer and I always associate sunflowers with the end of summer so I thought they were appropriate, plus there's this great image on which to use the spotlight technique. I stamped the large image on Classic White card stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and cut it out. Then I stamped part of it again and colored it with the Sunflower Copic marker collection, cut it out with my Classic Circle Nestabilities die, then matted it with Early Espresso card stock before popping it up on the original image. The rest is pretty simply--I stamped, colored, and cut out a single leaf image and tucked it up under the button that I tied onto some twill. Then I added the sentiment to the leaf. Everything was sponged with Antique Linen Distress Ink before being put together, including the Origins patterned paper elements. This is SUCH a fun technique I really do hope a lot of you will play along.

Just the ticket - FTTC #83

It's time for Flourishes' Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC83)! This week Betty Wright is our host. Betty is challenging us to use tickets on our cards. Now, you can use actual store bought tickets or create your own, or come up with ways to create a ticket look with your focal image, card base, or sentiment. We would love to see what you create!

OK, I went with create my own. I'm using the recently released Fine Herbs set for my card. I love the sentiments in this set--just perfect for a focus on sentiments. First, I stamped the rosemary image on Classic Ivory card stock and wrapped black ribbon around. Then I stamped the sentiment and added the little greenery image under it. Next I cut it out with a Classic Rectangle Nestabilities die, used my ticket corner punch on the corners, and then made the little perforations with my 1/16th" hole punch. Finally, I matted it with Always Artichoke card stock, added some black flat-backed pearls, and popped it up. Very simple design but I'm liking it.

Flowers Feed the Soul - FTTC #82

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC82)! It is the end of the month so we have a challenge host! Traci Major is our challenge host! Traci is challenging us to Summer Memories! With summer quickly drawing to a close, Traci wants us to reflect on one of our summer activities and create a card capturing one of our favorite memories of Summer 2010! We would love to see what you create!

Gardening is a big part of every summer for me so I thought I'd bring out my From the Garden set. This little scene is very familiar to me, LOL. I stamped the image on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. I'm using paper from Basic Grey's Green At Heart 6 x 6 pad and Pear Pizazz card stock--which is fast becoming a favorite green for me. The circle element was cut with a Classic Circle Nestabilities die, then I stamped the sentiment from the set and added some flat backed pearls.

Delight in the unexpected - FTTC #81

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC81)! This week Maki Jones is our challenge host. Maki is challenging us to use lace. Whether you have real lace, lace punches, lace paper, or any other type of lacy item, add a bit of elegance to your cards this week with some lace. We would love to see what you create!

OK, that's an easy one, right? I decided to use some faux lace on my card today, using Flourishes gorgeous Lace Edges set. I pulled out this paper from Memory Box and stamped the image in Versamark, then heat embossed with white detail embossing powder. Then I stamped this sentiment, from Life Lines in Memento Rich Cocoa ink--I thought that was a fitting sentiment to go along with the faux lace, LOL! Finally, I added some flat backed pearls, a strip of ribbon and some tiny mother-of-pearl buttons that I've had forever. Very simple design, to show off that gorgeous embossed lace.

Just a [color combo] note - FTTC #80

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC80)! Silke Ledlow is our challenge host. She is challenging us to a color scheme! This one is not only easy and fun, but the colors are sure to make a beauty. Simply make a card using the four colors of hot pink, soft yellow, Kraft, and black that are listed in the picture and link it here! While Flourishes stamps are not required, if you have them by all mean use them! We would love to see what you create!

OK, if my card seems to be a little familiar, it's because I CASE'd myself! I'll admit to struggling with this color combo. When I think of Flourishes I think of those gorgeous botannicals--beautiful flowers. And I need GREEN for flowers, LOL! So my mojo went on vacation this week--maybe it's the incessant heat, LOL. I went the more is more route with this version. My card base is Kraft, with a layer of Basic Black. Then I stamped the Cherry Blossom image on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. I did color the sepals in a Kraft color since I had no green ;-) Artistic license, yeah, that's what it was! The sentiment is from Tag Lines, a set I just LOVE!!! Gorgeous fonts and classic sentiments. Last thing was to tie some black and tan gingham ribbon around the top. You can't tell from my picture, but I've popped the entire white panel up on foam tape.

Thank you berry much - FTTC #79

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC79)! This week Cindy Haffner is hosting. She is challenging us to a sketch she has designed. As far as sketches go, there is not much of an explanation necessary. You can turn it and modify the shapes to fit your size card, but in the end, it should still look like the sketch. Good Luck!!! Here's Cindy's sketch, and you can get all the details at the Flourishes' blog. I must tell you that when I first saw this sketch I had no idea what I was going to do, but I'm pretty happy with what I ended up with.

I decided it was high time I inked up this blueberry image from Berry Sweet. Then I went looking for paper and ran across Basic Grey's June Bug, which was perfect! I stamped the image on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. Then I sponged the edges with Antique Linen Distress Ink and cut it out with a Classic Circle Nestabilities die. Finally, I matted it with paper cut/embossed with Label's Three Nestabilities. I think the rest is pretty self-explanatory.

Unembellished Tigerlily - FTTC 78

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC78)! This week Dee Jackson is our host. Dee is challenging us to a limited supplies challenge. The limit? NO Embellishments. What does this mean? It means that we let the image we use speak for itself. We CAN use ink, stamps, paper, punches, die cuts, and coloring tools. We cannot add rhinestones, Prima flowers, buttons, pearls, ribbons, brads, etc. We would love to see what you create with this limited supplies challenge.

Hmmmm, this is a tough one for me. You know I love me some ribbon, buttons, bling--any of it and sometimes all of it, LOL! But Dee says no embellishments today so this is what I've come up with. This is the July flower from from Flourishes A Year In Flowers series, Set 2. I used a CAS layout, but I've got layers. I embossed the white base layer with the Textiles embossing folder and the rest was just a matter of layering. I stamped the image on Flourishes Classic White card stock and colored with Copic markers, then popped up on foam squares. The sentiment was punched out and popped up, as well. Simple, but those flowers are so gorgeous they really don't need any embellishment, do they? Be sure to go see how my team mates are going embellishment-free today! I hope you'll play along with us!

Morning Glory - FTTC #77

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC77)! It is the end of the month so we have a challenge host. This month's host is Emily Keaton. Emily is challenging us to use Pins! All kinds of pins will do. Think stick pins, hat pins, safety pins, straight pins, diaper pins, even mini clothes pins or a brooch-style pin. We would love to see what you create!

I love making these beaded stick pins--they add such an elegant and feminine feel to a card, don't you think? I'm using the August flower from Flourishes A Year Of Flowers, Set 2 for my card--I know, I'm early with August, but it's almost here! I stamped it on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. Not sure if you can tell, but the solid blue part of the base card was embossed with my Moroccan Screen Cuttlebug embossing folder for a little interest. I used a white paper doily for the circular element, tied some black twill around in a bow, and stuck the stick pin through the knot. The sentiment was stamped, punched out, embellished with a blue Dew Drop, and popped up on a foam square. I do love the flowers in these sets.

Thank you! Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #76

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC76)! This week yours truly is the host and I have an Inspiration Challenge for you! I've chosen one gorgeous picture to get you inspired by for your card making. You can obviously recreate the look or be inspired by the colors or other elements in the photo. We would love to see what you create!

And here's the inspiration piece I chose:

I just love the colors in this--so fresh and summery, don't you think? So for my card, I chose a very summery set--Flourishes Humming Along. We have these Ruby Throated humming birds at our house--we put out several feeders for them and they are such entertaining little rascals!

I stamped the images on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored it with Copic markers. I thought that gorgeous image (two images, really--the Trumpet Vine and the hummer are two separate images) didn't need much embellishment so I pretty much embraced the white space--I think the card construction is pretty obvious.

In all things of nature...FTTC#75

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC75)! This week Betty Wright is our challenge host. Betty is challenging us to use felt! Felt is everywhere right now in the crafting world. It is easier to use than ever with all of the wonderful die cuts available. You can create flowers, borders, accents, and so much more! We would love to see what you create using felt!

I think I've mentioned that I love sentiment stamps. Maybe once. Or twice. Anyway, I'm loving the sentiments in this set by Flourishes, called Life Lines. Isn't that font gorgeous!? Since I wanted it to definitely be the focal image, I kept my layout simple and used my paper and embellishments to complement the theme--nature. The patterned paper is from a Memory Box collection called Jubilee, and the sentiment and card base are Classic White card stock. I cut my felt flower out with my Dahlia Nestabilities dies and did a little sewing on them--they looked a little blah just stacked up. I hand cut the leaves from more felt and added a sweet little button for the center. A strip of pleated and stitched ribbon and some Basic Grey pearls finished it off.
