Hi, everyone, and welcome to the first Color Throwdown Challenge of 2013! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and I’m wishing you all a very Happy New Year!
This week Joan is our host and picked her colors based on this inspiration piece. A very earthy palette that I found easy to work with—as soon as I accepted the fact that I could NOT get that birdcage out of my mind, LOL! I tried and tried to take it in another direction but nothing worked so I gave up and went with the flow. I’m so glad I did ‘cause I love how my card turned out :)
I started with a Whip Cream card stock base and added a Whip Cream card stock layer, popped up on foam. I cut the sweet bird cage from my Die-namics Contempo Cage & Stamp Set from Kraft corrugated paper and swiped it with my Soft Suede ink pad for some interest. Then I stamped the chain from the set with Soft Suede ink and laid down a pearl flourish before popping the cage up on foam bits. Next, I added some “branches” that I made from my Die-namics Winter Wreath and attached some Die-namics Mini Royal Roses along with some Die-namics Royal Leaves. The bird was cut from Kraft card stock and the wings from Soft Suede card stock. I added a pearl eye and popped him up on foam, then slipped the sentiment, stamped on a Die-namics Fishtail Flags STAX die cut under him. Everything was swiped with Vintage Photo Distress Ink.
Here’s the inside with another sentiment from the set:
Here are the Die-namics dies I used on this card:
And that’s it from me! Remember, you do not have to have the exact colors to play the Color Throwdown challenge. If you don't, just use the closest you have. So, c'mon over to the Color Throwdown blog and play along with us this week. Please use the link service to post your card and please link directly to your card so we can find it easily. And please include a link in your post to the Color Throwdown. If you upload your card to a public forum, please use the keyword CTD223 so we can see your beauty all in one place. Hope to see you there! Be sure to check out what the other team members have come up with this week!
