Batty Bites

I've got another Taylored Expressions project for you today.


I decided to make a Halloween treat with these gummy eyeballs I found. Aren't they GROSS? But kids will love 'em, you know they will! I'll keep this for the little boy next door--he'll freak out. Heh.

I used some of my Basic Grey Eerie paper to make this band around the adorable paint can I got from Taylored Expressions. It's a Short Pail and I love the size! And doncha just love that bat trim? I got that at JoAnn's last year and never found a use for it--this is perfect!. I stamped the images from Fright Night Favors and then die cut the label with the Favor Frame Die. The bats on the frame and the piece of candy are also from the set, stamped, cut out, and adhered. And that's it! Easy peasy and he's gonna love it! Heh.

Happy Fall - C4C #55

Howdy, Crazy fans! It's time for another Crazy 4 Challenges challenge. This week, Joycelyn has a sketch for us:

I decided to go as CAS as I could with this sketch. I used more of my precious stash of Basic Grey's Indian Summer paper. I love it so much I just ordered another pad--hmmmm, I probably should have gotten two while I was at it ;-) So, I started with a Soft Suede base, added a layer of Cherry Cobbler, and then the design paper. I stitched around that and distressed the edges a bit. For the horizontal elements, I simply wrapped some twine around. Next I die cut and stamped the big maple leaf from PTI's Leaf Prints using the rock and roll method and popped it up on foam. I cut and stamped the smaller leaves from the same set, and sorta zig zagged their placement. Finally, I stamped the sentiment from 2009 Autumn Tags and cut a tag and tied it on with a button and more twine.

Cracked Glass - Stamp Simply #157

This week's Stamp Simply challenge is a technique challenge. Here's what Sharon says:

Sept. 17 - ssnotime157 - Cracked Glass - Deb Saaranen selected our challenge this week and her selection is the Cracked Glass Technique which I LOVE. Haven't done that in ages but I love the look. It works so well on vintage or wintery creations, but feel free to use it in any way that strikes your fancy. If you've never done Cracked Glass before, you can check out this SCS tutorial.

OK, my only defense is that this was my first time to try this technique. I think I got carried away with my layers of UTEE. Most of it cracked correctly, but at the top it looks like a starburst, LOL! I'm a-thinkin' I need more practice with this, so you might want to just consider this a tutorial on how *not* to do this technique ;-)

My image is from Crafty Secret's Halloween Journal Notes pad that you can find in Sharon's store here (scroll down to about 1/4 of the way from the bottom)--it's so cutely vintage, don't you think? I covered it with Versamark and then proceeded to pile up layers of UTEE. Then I cracked it just like the video showed, matted it, and popped it up on some foam. I thought my layout was a needing a little somethin', so I added some punched out bats and some black flat-backed pearls. Not my finest hour.

Starring... CTD #110

The lovely LeAnne chose the colors for this week's Color Throwdown Challenge and they WERE a challenge for me.


This card is also for this week's MFT Wednesday Stamp Club, which is to use stars in your project--get the deets here. Since these colors "challenged" me, I decided to use a lot of white and use the colors as accents. I think everything should be fairly simple to figure out, but I will have to say how happy I'm that I tried SU! Heat and Stick powder for my glitter--I've always had trouble getting it to stick, no matter what kind of glue I tried, but this stuff WORKS! I cut the star with a Nestablilities die, covered it with Versamark, applied the powder, melted it, sprinkled on some Glitzy Glitter and hit it with the heat tool again to set it. Nice :) I also embossed the Framed Greetings border and the sentiment, from Clearly Sentimental About Emerson, with silver embossing powder before cutting it out with the Framed Greetings Die-namics die. Not exactly Basic Gray, but close enough ;-)

In the Spotlight - FTTC #84

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge (FTTC84)! This week I'm your host and I'm challenging everyone to the spotlight technique. Here is a link to a spotlighting tutorial from SCS. This is a fun technique that often gets overlooked. Give it a try! We would love to see what you create!

For my card, I chose to use Sunflowers. It's the end of summer and I always associate sunflowers with the end of summer so I thought they were appropriate, plus there's this great image on which to use the spotlight technique. I stamped the large image on Classic White card stock with Memento Rich Cocoa ink and cut it out. Then I stamped part of it again and colored it with the Sunflower Copic marker collection, cut it out with my Classic Circle Nestabilities die, then matted it with Early Espresso card stock before popping it up on the original image. The rest is pretty simply--I stamped, colored, and cut out a single leaf image and tucked it up under the button that I tied onto some twill. Then I added the sentiment to the leaf. Everything was sponged with Antique Linen Distress Ink before being put together, including the Origins patterned paper elements. This is SUCH a fun technique I really do hope a lot of you will play along.
