Flourishes Friday – Garden Fresh

Today I have the last sneak from the Flourishes June release. This is such an exciting month! Gorgeous zinnias, sweet princess, and now, veggies!!! Be still my heart! I love anything botanical, especially flowers, but veggies and fruit images are not far behind.

Garden Fresh Graphic

Another fabulously illustrated set by Marcella Halsey. Don’t they look good enough to eat!?

For my project today, I decided to make a little card to give a hostess, complete with recipe. When I need to prepare a dish to take to a cookout I always think of 7 Layer Salad (recipe at bottom of post). SO easy and SO good! Now I have the perfect image to use on a thank you card for the hostess that includes a little giftie of the recipe.

I stamped the image on Classic White card stock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored the peas with the Fields Collection Copic markers. Then I added the sentiment and some distress ink around the edges to tone down the bright white a bit. I made a little pocket from patterned paper and card stock into which to slip the recipe card. WHICH is available (along with a second style) as a download from Flourishes. I printed it off on Classic White then backed it with the green I’m using for the card.
Here’s the inside with another sentiment from the set and another copy of the main image, uncolored, using Classic Ivory card stock.

 Here’s the recipe card.

After I printed off the recipe card and cut it out by hand, I simply drew around it on card stock and cut it out a little larger for a nice mat. I always write recipes in pencil—so I, or the recipient, can easily make changes/additions if desired. Don't you love that recipe card? Again, it will be available as a downloadable file and is called Fresh Recipes.

And don’t forget to check back on the Flourishes blog at Noon Central time to see what today’s challenge is.

Here’s the recipe—you can actually use pretty much any raw veggies you want, but here’s what I usually use.

7 Layer Salad
1/2 head Iceberg lettuce, torn into pieces
1 cup celery, sliced
1 cup red onion, diced coarsely
1 10oz. package frozen peas, thawed
1 c. mayonnaise (not salad dressing)
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups shredded cheese of choice
Bacon Bits to taste

Layer the veggies in a bowl, mix the mayonnaise and sugar and spread on top. Be sure to carry it all the way to the sides of the bowl to seal. Sprinkle cheese on top evenly, then bacon bits. Chill up to 24 hours.

And you MUST serve it in a clear glass bowl so your gorgeous layers will show, like this:
